The Ellenroad Ring Mill Engine is a preserved stationary steam engine in Newhey, Greater Manchester, England. It powered the Ellenroad Ring Mill from 1917, and after the mill's closure the engine is still worked under steam as a museum display.

At 3000 hp, the twin tandem compound steam engine is possibly the most powerful of the type in preservation. The two engines are named Victoria and Alexandra, multiple ropes around the flywheel drove the line shafts on each floor of the mill which in turn drove the ring spinning frames.

In addition to the mill engine, the museum also houses in operational condition the original Ellenroad mill pilot generator engine and sprinkler pump, the Whitelees Beam Engine, and the Irene Engine. The museum trust also owns the surviving components of the Fern Mill Engine, which it hopes eventually to restore to...

The Ellenroad Mill is home to the largest working steam mill engine in the world and mighty impressive it is too. You can only be hugely impressed at the sheer scale and power of it, even if you have no interest in industrial history. This was a special steaming day, as there was a meeting of classic cars to enjoy plus a few steam powered wagons and miniature traction engines. The cafe was doing a roaring trade in home made sandwiches and cakes, all that was missing was the ice-cream van who usually attends, disappointing my granddaughter! Well worth a visit on any steaming day, suitable for all ages and interests, support the tireless volunteers who do so much to keep the...

It's a working museum... Home to the largest functioning steam engine, and a collection of smaller machines.

Entry is open the first Sunday of every month, all going to fund the machines as everything is fine by volunteers, and there's usually an associated event too - classic cars, models, Christmas market; plus music from a local group.

The museum is a great place if you have any interest in engineering, and the volunteers that run the place area always happy to talk and make you...

Great site, visit when in steam 1st weekend in the month. Even better go when there's an event, vintage cars. Fantastic engine is the star but boiler room, blacksmith shop all open and working. Bot tricky getting around if you have mobility issues, but there is stair lift to upper level. Volunteers very knowledgeable and helpful. Small tea bar avaliable.

First time there interesting. I've now become a member at this Mill working on Steam days and none Steam days. Helping to rebuild another Steam engine. Working with the other members who are great to work with. Update come and Irene in steam. I'll be running her on May 5th Classic car show and bikes fun for all ages.
