As it being Christmas day I was in high spirits, sharing photos of my day, with friends, of my children and their gifts, until I received a picture back of my friends child in an electric gator, which was lovely to see, after the rejection of me asking if I could have a go on the aforementioned gator, being an adult at 6ft and 16 stone adult filled me with a feeling of jealousy that couldn't be rivalled, with this overcoming emotion I later filled my pockets with all the tools needed to "aquire" one of my own from the closest place being the golf course adjacent to the country park, once I "acquired" the vehicle I headed down the canal path which might I add was no mean feat in an electrical vehicle due to many a style and other obstacles including wildlife and Fishermen that had nothing better to do on the anniversary of the birth of baby jesus, I need not say the battery ran out half way round at Loch no.3.... this was a major inconvenience.... so i did my part for the environment... i pushed it in the lock as not to litter the pathway.... no need to thank me. After this my main concern is when will charger ports be installed along the path?! Are we living in medieval times?! Can we bring the canal and its pathways into this century please? Thats is all I ask

Read moreLovely country park for walking or cycling. Parking is on Hollygate Lane, clearly signposted and free. You can also park on colliers way and go up the path to by the substation, but the Hollygate Lane carpark is better. The dog pool gets a lot of use and is a popular addition. Watch out for dog muck wherever you go, some owners are disgraceful, this has been an issue for years here. Stick to the paths and you should be ok. There are no public facilities of any sort here but you can easily walk to the Rose and Crown or the Manvers Arms for a pint and some food (although the former now only does curry). There is a connection to the new multi user route so you can get from the country park to Holme Pierrepont by foot or bike.
If you follow the signs for high trail and the west viewpoint on a clear day you can easily see Gamston airport and the small planes taking off, and if you're really lucky you might get to see the ex-military Provost taking off. Even without that spectacle the views are quite something. Walking by the canal is lovely and you can get all the way to Nottingham should you wish.
Oh - ignore the reviews that mention the abandoned portakabins by the canal, that site was cleared several months ago and is now a well-kept storage facility for brand new cars...
Read moreCotgrave Country Park is a fantastic spot, especially for those who enjoy long walks, cycling, or just spending time outdoors. The park is impressively large with a great range of trail lengths, making it suitable for both casual walkers and more serious hikers. There are plenty of benches throughout for a relaxing break, and it’s extremely dog-friendly — there are lots of dedicated bins for dog poo and even a special dog pound area where dogs can run and play safely. The park is clearly conscious of the environment, featuring bee and bug hotels (“tiny houses”), and you’ll often spot wildlife along the trails. On Fridays and weekends when the weather is good, a remote coffee van visits, offering a nice treat during your stroll. Walkers and cyclists alike are welcome here, and the Grantham Canal running through the park is part of a national cycle path, making it easy to extend your route. Another big plus is the allocated car park, which is free of charge. The whole experience is family-friendly, eco-conscious, and very accessible for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommended for a nature walk, cycle, or just a relaxing day out...
