STREZZA — Restaurant in Rushcliffe

I arrived at Strezza on a Friday night to have a few drinks after work. They wasn’t particularly busy to say it was a Friday night (it wasn’t busy at the time we had arrived anyway). We managed to order a drink as soon as we sat down. The other person I was with finished their cocktail relatively quickly (the cocktail sizes are very stingy for the price), I still had half of my drink left. It was quite clear that the other person I was with wanted to order another drink. They shouted ‘excuse me’ to get one waitresses attention, for her to look over and then completely ignore. A few moments later, they shouted another waitress for to then be blanked again. It was getting frustrating at this point as the waitresses we specifically shouted for kept tending to other tables instead of us. We then shouted another waitress, of course we got ignored again. To be quite honest, some of the waitresses seem unapproachable as they look absolutely miserable. It very much seemed like as we wasn’t ordering food and wasn’t spending as much money as what someone who was eating would be, they was almost fobbing us off. I may be wrong, but it very much seemed that way. It didn’t help that half the staff was stood behind the bar just chatting and not even taking notice as to what was happening around them. We really enjoyed our visit on Friday evening. Lovely looking place with an impressive pizza oven.

My Calzone in particular was huge and all of our group enjoyed their meals. Good choice of drinks including Neck Oil on tap!

There was however a minor negative: Our waitress was very friendly and welcoming however once the drink and food orders had been taken it was incredibly difficult to get anyone's attention for further drinks. After several failed attempts from the table, I resorted to going to the bar mid-meal and being stuck in a queue behind a Deliveroo driver collecting a delivery to get service.

There appears to be only one member of bar staff pouring drinks for both table orders and drinkers stood around the bar which causes all the servers to congregate around the bar area waiting for a tray of drinks to be prepared.

The service was generally pretty slow, not all the meals came out at the same time which isn't ideal although a couple of items were removed from the bill, (not at our request) to compensate which was unexpected and generous. Nobody came to ask if we wanted a coffee or dessert to finish?

We had a really nice night overall though and look forward to...

Not impressed. I asked for a calzone but of a topping which they normally serve as a pizza. This caused an immediate breakdown of communication with the mothership and the waitress started buffering. The manager came over and was just as confused. In the end they consulted with the chef and decided it was possible, but they’d charge me the fee for the ham and mushroom calzone. I can’t see why asking for any pizza to be converted to a calzone should cause so much consternation, nor cost an additional two pounds. All I am asking for, after all, is for the chef to FOLD IT IN HALF!! On the plus side, the mussels were a large portion for the price. The baked feta in sauce was disappointing.
