Wake up your inner adventurer, grab your wellies or walking boots and head off to Skylarks Nature Reserve! This place is just beautiful 🥰 If you're following Google maps it will take you to a small carpark. You will see a map there for that side of the reserve and a little sign asking for a voluntary donation to the Wildlife Trust. Please do this as we need all green spaces we can master in this concrete World. 😇 You can also park up and down the road. Along the road, you will see a few entrances for the reserve on both sides. This place is maaaasiveee! Both sides have little ponds and bogs and very diverse wildlife. We saw a variety of birds so great for bird watchers. There are also different types of mushrooms for the mushroom hunters. My doggies absolutely loved this place. It has been fenced off with one of them square wires so the little ones cannot sneak out. Bonus!! There are no horse riders in the actual woodlandy parts however there are horse pastures in the adjoining fields to the reserve so please be mindful of this 🥰 There is a main pathway which has been beautifully maintained but I will encourage you to take the side trails as well. You won't be disappointed the whole reserve is just wonderful 🥰 We would definitely be visiting again.

One of my favourite places for a walk. I often visit here while at Holme Pierrepont County Park, or on my way back from Cotgrave Country Park via the old railway line that leads to Radcliffe On Trent. There's some incredible scenery all year round with a couple of routes through a nice wooded area that I always take. It also has a some open green spaces, a meadow, a pond with reed beds, a stream and a big lake with islands that's popular with bird watchers. It used to be a commercial gravel pit, but was transformed into a nature reserve in the 80s. It even has a route that is wheelchair friendly. Because it's close to Holme Pierrepont County Park you're never too far from a couple of cafes and toilets too

A lovely nature reserve managed by the wonderful Notts wildlife trust. Great place to see wildfowl, especially during autumn & winter. The little Saxon inspired bird hide is a great place to sit & observe the wide variety of birds on the main lake. The reserve is on low lying ground so parts can get very muddy & flooded. Best to wear Wellington's, especially after any rainfall, and particularly in the autumn & winter months. This is not a major nature reserve, so there are no facilities here, e.g. toilets, cafe, etc. The car park is also small but there is roadside parking available too.

"SKYLARKS NATURE RESERVE 2024"..

Wildlife Rescue Called;

Injured swan near Skylarks Nature Reserve in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham after it was reported collapsed with wounds and covered in flies. We were initially contacted earlier this morning but told it had died, only for it to be reported a few hours later. He had obviously collapsed and was thought to be dead.

He has multiple dog bite wounds to his right side including on his neck and back so he struggles to keep his head up for more than a few seconds. One of the wounds is deep and is affecting an air sac.

The wounds have been clipped up, cleaned and he’s on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain relief. The fly eggs have all been removed.

The next 12 hours will be critical for this poor boy.

This is a reminder that all dogs should be on a lead or under close control around wildlife especially in nature reserves.

Fingers crossed for this poor boy. 😣😣😣

"IF YOU ARE VISITING THIS NATURE RESERVE + WITNESS A DOG OWNER WITH A DOG HARASSING / ATTACKING WILDLIFE HERE THEN IF YOU CAN SHOUT AT THE DOG OWNER TO STOP THE ATTACK + IMMEDIATELY PHONE THE LOCAL POLICE WITH FULL DESCRIPTIVE DETAILS OF THE DOG OWNER, THE ATTACKING DOG, TRANSPORT USED BY THE DOG OWNER"..

THANK FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE..

What a lovely place! Very tranquil. Never been before. I chose to go, as it was part way between my house and that of my friend who lives in Lincoln. Fancied doing something other than walking around shops or sitting in a coffee place. This was a perfect alternative 😊

As it happened, we only walked for about 15 mins and came to the water, which looked so nice we sat for a while and ended up not moving again! It was a lovely picturesque spot to just hang out and catch up, so that's what happened - for several hours! 😄

Got lost on the way back to the cars but saw lots of bunnies (very cute) and eventually did find our way - at least we managed to get a bit more walking in, as a result 😁

Will definitely go again, bet it's lovely in...
