The walk from the car park is a track adjacent to some allotments and a farm. There were a few interesting animals, donkeys, cows and a lama or two in the nearby fields. As the path dips you hear the beautiful sound of the flow of water break the tranquility of the natural surroundings. Walking a little further brings you to the gently flowing river. Just walk down the bank to the river and close your eyes. Peaceful. The Aqueduct stands majestically opposite. Another one of the country's engineering greats. For those brave enough, why not take the wooden steps to the top, taking in the wonderful views and sounds. We arrived after the gates and cafe had closed so can't comment on those. Perhaps when we return again one day.

Really stunning from all angles. I would recommend starting in Muiravonside country park for parking though it is charged at £2. There are lots of other paths and ways to access it thpugh but that way is probably the shortest and most accessible. You can walk along the cannal though to reach it, for example from Bridge 49. Possible to walk over it and around it on either side. The cobblestone can be very slippy though in the wet and there are plenty of steep steps on the route up to cross it from Muiravonside country park.

Beautiful walk, a couple of mile along canal towpath from Linlithgow. Excellent view of the stunning railway bridge mirroring the arches of the aqueduct. Great that there are steps and wooden walkway to get down underneath to explore Avon gorge and woodland trail. Also a bit beyond the aqueduct there's a lovely canal side restaurant/cafe with veranda.

This is a beautiful piece of architecture and design, then history of which is well documented below it in large visual and word tables. The surrounding area is gorgeous, the river below, the wildlife and other historical buildings nearby. So quiet. The Stirling family were the last to work the land up until 1960's when the big house fell into disrepair and inheritance disputes. Money ruins everything. This whole debacle is also written down for all to read within walking distance. Turn right at car park to the Cafe and Info centre....
