Hidden Gem: A Perfect Day at Dunimarle Castle and Gardens Dunimarle Castle and Gardens was an absolute delight! Nestled near Culross, it offered a charming escape into history and beauty. Here's what made my visit so enjoyable:
Enchanting Grounds: The 52-acre estate is a wonderland of formal gardens, meadows, and woodlands. Strolling through the vibrant flowerbeds and under the shade of towering redwoods was incredibly peaceful. Don't miss the Snowdrop Walk, a magical path that leads to the recently opened Orangery Tearoom.
Delicious Refreshments: Speaking of the Orangery, it's a gem! The scones and cakes were homemade and delicious, and the views from the outdoor seating area were simply breathtaking. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more pleasant.
A Glimpse into History: The castle itself is a fascinating blend of architectural styles. The Victorian Gothic chapel is particularly impressive, and the ruins of the medieval castle add a touch of mystery to the grounds. Tours are available, offering a deeper look into the castle's rich history.
Perfect for All Ages: Dunimarle Castle has something for everyone. Families will love exploring the gardens and meadows. Couples can enjoy a romantic stroll or even host their wedding in this stunning setting. History buffs will appreciate the chance to learn about the castle's past.
Overall, Dunimarle Castle and Gardens is a must-visit for anyone in the Culross area. It's a beautiful escape that offers a delightful mix of history, nature, and delicious food. I highly...
Read moreVisited today for first time although we are relatively nearby (Falkirk) The setting, the decor, the menu, everything looked perfect. This happened.... We sat outside initially as was busy inside. We arrived same time as two people who also initially sat outside. We spotted a table inside ( weather precarious) and made our way toward it. Approached then by the other party who asked if we were taking it. It dawned on us that one person out of the two seemed somewhat frail so we offered them first take of the table inside. We sat outside for a while then a table became available inside. We sat down, no drama. Having been given menus and made our choices a waitress approached us and told us the table was reserved. I looked up and seen seeting upstairs with customers seated there. I said we would remove ourselves there to be informed loudly that they would rather we didn't. Making rather a public spectacle by now. I asked why and was told that the customers upstairs wished privacy but, wait for it, if we really wanted to we could go up. Mortifying, my husband and I are quiet, civil people who eat out often causing no offence anywhere. Swift retreat, ate at the palace and offended no...
Read moreBeautiful setting with great walks and views. Very clean unisex toilets. Food was nice enough but service was abysmal. Pleasant young waitresses who are desperately needing proper training. It was a busy lunchtime and one of them had to rush off a few times to 'ask the Manager'. The Manager should have been there on the front line, supervising and assisting. Not a good impression. Food took a very long time to come and the cake arrived before the main course. The wrong drink was brought to the table. While we were there, an elderly couple arrived for lunch. The gentleman was pushing his wife who was in a wheelchair. The wheels of the wheelchair got stuck in the stone chips on the forecourt. It was the customers who went to help - no help from any of the staff was forthcoming. It would be wonderful if some kind of firm pathway could be installed to make this a wheelchair-friendly place. There are several steep steps up into the dining room, where food and drink orders are placed. There didn't appear to be any table service. Not great if you have mobility issues. Sadly, we won't be...
