Was on holiday at the Scottish Mining Trust in Culross and went to the palace for a day out. Fantastic historic place, looks like the town time forgot. Very small and quaint, beautiful but not a great deal to do here, apart from the historical features. Thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the palace. They have a short video for you to view before you start the tour and then we just walked round the palace ourselves, no guided tour but there are signs dotted about that direct on which way to go so that you can take in all the rooms and finish the tour back where you started. Would highly recommend if you are interested in history, not just the palace but the whole town. There is also conservation work being carried out on other houses in the town. Very interesting and...

This review is about the palace: NTS guides like Michael transform a visit and make the day. He can stitch stories together - not just the ones he must have to hand but things that just come up in conversation. He had us enthralled and quizzed by turn and wholly engaged. There is a children's trail on request in the shop. To get the benefit of it you need someone like Michael on hand to ask or who engages with you. The team in general seemed good. Interesting summary video at the entrance, gives a brief history of the industrial rise then stasis of Culross which led to its preservation and the key role in this of George Bruce who build the Palace. Lovely small restored terraced 17th century gardens and a flock of rare Dumpy hens in the orchard. A...

We visited the Royal Burgh of Culross Sunday afternoon. It was part of the Scottish Heritage Pass. You have to go to the small Visitor Center to get the tickets. For children you can get a sheet with questions they can solve inside the museum. The house and gardens are a "must have seen" for Outlander Fans. The rooms are the set of Geilis Duncan flat in Crainesmuir. Behind in the garden they filmed the scene in the herb garden where Claire meets Geilis. The cellar and kitchen was the set for the tavern. After visiting the children can go to the visitor center to get their price for solving the riddle. It is a beautiful House in a old fashioned little village....

Charming historic village with a fine collection of preserved 17th and 18th century buildings. Culross is characterized by narrow cobbled streets, steep alleyways and colourful buildings, and is a credit to National Trust Scotland. Highlights to look out for include the Townhouse, Mercat Cross, Abbey and Pier. It's worth spending some time exploring the village; its quaint streets are some of the prettiest in the UK. There's free parking at the edge of the village, and a couple of nice cafés and shops. There's a pleasant coastal walk, with good views across the Forth. It's also worth walking up the steps to the viewpoint above the Hanging Garden.

TL;DR: Culross is a charming and peaceful royal burgh with stunning pier views, making it a perfect stop to unwind after an Outlander tour. Culross was the ideal way to end our incredible Outlander bus tour with Rabbie’s. This sleepy royal burgh, with its well-preserved historic buildings and cobbled streets, felt like stepping back in time. While we didn’t have many shops to visit during our stop, simply walking around and taking in the atmosphere was a treat. The highlight was the breathtaking views from the pier, offering a perfect moment of quiet reflection after a day of exploring.

Culross has such a charming, old-style feel—very cute, though smaller than I expected. The palace garden was my favourite part: peaceful and beautifully laid out, even though the weather wasn’t great during my visit. The whole experience was relaxing, like a little step back in time. A lovely place to explore if you enjoy history and quiet spots.
