Durness Beach – My Favourite Place in the North of Scotland Durness Beach is, without a doubt, the most beautiful beach I’ve seen in Scotland — and maybe anywhere. It has this wild, untouched feeling that makes you stop and take it all in. The sand might not be the smoothest, but the setting more than makes up for it. Surrounded by tall grass and sand dunes, it feels like a little world of its own. What makes it truly special are the massive rock formations scattered across the beach, separating it into what feels like three smaller, hidden beaches. These dramatic rocks are ancient — formed from Durness limestone shaped over millions of years — and they give the whole place a kind of rugged magic. The sound of the waves crashing against them is almost spooky, and honestly, my imagination went wild there. From the beach, there’s a short walk to Marja’s Waterfall, which is a lovely bonus if you’re up for a wander. The views, the colours, the shapes of the rocks… it all comes together to create something unforgettable. For me, this beach is more than just scenic — it’s a place that really stayed with me. Peaceful, powerful, and absolutely my favourite spot on the whole trip. If you’re anywhere near the area, don’t miss it.

Beautiful unspoilt beach. Recently we a group of five visited this white sand beach, luckily the day was amazing with 15+ degrees with less wind. Spent all our evening and returned to Dingwall. Its a bit boring single track journey but all of us felt worth going to Durness. No doubt about its been the award winning beach. Be watchful of your timing you won't get anything to eat or drink there after 5pm, so carry some snacks of sandwiches and drinks. We saw loads of caravans settled on the way and on the site parking. It's a heaven for dog walkers miles to walk also enjoying the un believable scenery. It's well connected to NC500 route, it was a bonus for us as we spotted penguins jumping just after 6pm.

Excellent beach, been visiting for 30 years and still a great unspoilt beach. Campsite now has far more camper vans whereas used to be predominantly tents. Is that why the local campsite restaurant has closed.... However the name beach is still great, soft dry clean sand at the top and harder sand near the sea , but all lovely and clean. The local shop is great with a lovely host, a spar also but I prefer the shop.
