After a long day of, sometimes difficult, driving from the ferry port at Scrabster (albeit extremely scenic – especially the drive around the banks of Loch Eriboll) we arrived in Durness. Struggled to find somewhere to eat and the place we did eat at (Meet and Eat at the Balnakiel Craft Village) is due to close next season.|The property was easy to find and parking was good.|The host seemed pre-occupied as she welcomed us and seemed a bit put out when we said we’d like the early breakfast option at 07:00.|The room was just okay and when more guests arrived you could clearly hear them down the corridor. |Either the hosts or the other guests had a young child and they could clearly be heard throughout the evening (we found ourselves talking in hushed voices).|Bathroom was good with a hi-tech shower cubicle.|Breakfast was good – both went for the full Scottish, but the host appeared to have woken late (we’d heard hurried footsteps in the corridor just before 07:00) and he looked flustered.|The breakfast was served in a lounge with a couple of sofas and a TV as well as dining tables (the security camera was a little off putting though). Great views.|Price was cheaper than other B&Bs we used on our trip but we wouldn’t stay here again due to lack of nearby dining options and general opinion on our stay - we felt like we were an...
Read moreSimply put, we had a lovely stay, in what was a lovely, clean, comfortable, warm, and inviting B&B.
Fashven was easy to find, and had free parking on-site. Our room itself was spacious and clean, and lovely and cosy, with every measure taken to reduce risks from COVID-19, leaving us feeling safe and confident indeed. Facilities were great, and the bathroom was bright and spacious too. And despite the weather outside, inside was lovely and warm.
The lounge was nice too, subject to the provisions in place for COVID in communal areas, and this too helped us feel safe, without anything seeming clinical though in any way either, which is nice too.
The hosts were lovely, and could not do enough to help us (thank you Scott and Michaela), and had loads of useful knowledge on the local area for us too - even though we consider ourselves frequent visitors to Durness.
We really loved our stay, and we will undoubtedly be back to stay at Fashven again in the future when visiting Durness - hopefully for even longer next time, as we always seem to have too little time to enjoy the area, and now Fashven B&B too.
Whole-heartedly...
Read moreWe are usually very generous with reviews but this was a totally weird experience by the lady owner who acted very impolite, rude, and overall disrespectful. Before we settled in right at the door we were asked what we want for breakfast. We selected based on all BB places along the NC 500 that we stayed at. And with an attitude she said “I can’t make all that food for you”. Then her dog came into the area and we said that we had dog allergies. Just a slip of tongue, we said thanks for putting it away. She got upset and said “that’s my pet”. All this was being said with a rude tone and attitude. She had facial expression showing disgust to us. The polite thing is to put that big dog away while you are handling customers. So then I said we just will leave and go and find another place. She said “well good luck finding another place around here” Totally unacceptable and very unwelcoming to guests. We stayed at Breakish next to Isle of Sky same family BB and it was the opposite - very welcoming and very friendly and very polite. We travel all over the world and have never been treated like this before. Please look for...
