Nice ruined site of the Fortrose Cathedral with nice surrounding grass area. We parked just up the street at a car park beside the fire station which was free and only a 2 min walk away. The cathedral itself is as you would expect in a ruined state with metal fencing in place to stop you gaining entrance to the inside which is quite a shame. You can still see inside and take pictures as you wish. There are a few history boards dotted around to give you information about the cathedral. Worth a visit.

It is amazing to find this historic ruined Cathedral in Fortrose. It makes you wonder what went on all these years ago. Although the Cathedral is ruinous you can get an idea of the size and it is very central to Fortrose. Entrance is free via the Fortrose War Memorial which acts as an entrance arch. Parking is limited and very tight. Well worth a look for historic purposes, and there are a few information notices to read.

Free parking, the cathedral is a ruin with only a couple of remaining buildings, no thanks to Cromwell and his cronies, worth a quickee, some nice history and diagrams of what the full cathedral was like. Check out Fortrose too, nice little place. You could walk to Chanelry Point from here too, via the golf course (watch out for flying balls).

The remains of Fortrose Cathedral is situated at the centre of the picturesque village of Fortrose on the south side of the Black Isle just north of Inverness. The grounds of the cathedral are open to public for free during daylight hours and the history is well explained on various boards. The Black Isle has a good bus service from Inverness and dolphins can also be watched close to shore at Channonry Point near Fortrose several hours before high tide. We attended St Boniface Medieval Fayre in Cathedral Square and grounds of this ruined cathedral again this year. A selection of craft and produce and entertainment stalls with stallholders and stalls all dressed up in medieval style. Also a delicious tea...
