The Anderson Hotel is a small, quirky, and historic hotel. It has a lot of love to give if you have arms wide enough to grasp it. You can tell this place is well loved by those that frequent it. Yes, the restaurant is a bit slow, but then again it's the owner/chef in the kitchen by himself. As his very kind staff remarked, “This is a bit like the modern versions of Fawlty Towers.” Everyone was trying so hard to please everyone it was a bit comical to watch. And the restaurant had a lot of business. ||The food was excellent. I had the BBQ ribs which were excellent and delicious. BBQ is their main thing. BBQ as Americans would know BBQ is not what I would call this. The sauce was much more tomato based. It was like a thick ragu sauce, but very tasty. (Strange that it's not real BBQ since the owner/chef is from Philadelphia). But the smoker did the job excellent on the ribs – very tender. Do not pass up. ||Sadly we did not get to eat in the famous whiskey bar – very lively and I suspect well loved by locals, bikers, tourist. They have almost every Scottish whiskey available (and many craft beers). Again, this place has a vibe that pulls you right in, even if it's not modern luxe. This is a laid back place not trying to be something it's not. ||The room – well, I suspect the hotel part is in need of a renovation. It has love to give is you are open to it. I did enjoy the soaking tub and the shower the next morning was adequate. The mattress really has to go (way too soft and over used) and the room needs a real deep clean. (throw out the old rugs and curtains). But we did sleep and then moved on the next day. We stayed here to experience the Black Isle, but if I was back through again, I probably would push on to Inverness and their hotels. This place can grow on you even if it's a bit dirty...
