We were very lucky the sun was shining, the birds were chirping away and the views we had were utterly breath taking! We headed in to the Glenmore park centre where they had staff ok only happy to help and then chose a couple of routes to walk in the morning over a cup of tea then headed out. The walks we did were the blue trail and then the red trail. The blue trail was fairly strenuous (we went anti clockwise and there are a few hundred stone steps to get up halfway) so if you struggle getting up steps then perhaps head around clockwise and go down them instead. Once you get to the top though the views are stunning and all you can hear are the trees and wildlife it's absolutely serene and well worth the few beads of sweat. Now the red trail around the loch was no where near as nice however there are some lovely view points across the loch and lots of wildlife. Now I would only say it wasn't as nice as there are a lot of people they park everywhere and make some of the route hazardous due to having to walk next a road and due to the cars parked on the verge you end up having to walk on the road itself which is fairly busy and I thought could be potentially dangerous. Apart from that stretch which lasted about 1km the rest of the route was well marked out and great. Well worth a visit just be careful on the red route of it...
Read moreI was a little hesitant about going here as I didn't know how to get there, but had been told by numerous people to go there. Fired lake Morlich into waze and headed off. Found Glenmore Lodge and ask the really helpful information manny about the location and that I had been recommended to go to the Green Lachan and the bothie. The guy gave me the best route to take. And off we (me and my two sons 7 and 5) went.
We were off and away following the blue posts. The route was well sign posted, and we went got to the Green Lachan no problem. It was stunning. But if you want to see some amazing landscapes keep trucking to the bothie, through the rayvon pass. Stunning views. We headed back along the alternate blue path which was a bit more fun, steps cut into the hill and again access to come lovely views of the hills.
There are alternate routes which are on the maps provided at the lodge and if you need some food head to the cafe.
If you want something more challenging (took us 4 hours) then you can go up the hill at the bothie.
Also... Midges. I've lived in Scotland for a long time but I've never been munched on by midges (Scottish mosquitoes with none of the Malaria) like this. Take Repellent, make sure u cover up as much as u can. You can also get head protection. My kids were going nuts while...
Read moreWhere do I start? This is really worth it to visit. Amazing view from the top of the mountain and a beautiful trail through the woods passing a small green loch.
The long trail isn't too hard to do, it's 10km and will take from 2-5 hours depending on the person doing the trail. You need some hiking experience to do it but I think most average adults can do it. I wouldn't recommend taking kids under the age of 10-11 because I'm not sure if they're able to make this trail. I wouldn't recommend to do this in the rain because the steps can become slippery and the steep parts of the trail will become hard to climb. The entire path would become mud which will make it almost impossible to do the trail. On top of the mountain you have a great view, however it can be very windy so make sure you're prepared for that. Car parking is cheap, but make sure you come early in the day so that you're sure of a parking spot. After the trail you can get something to eat and/or drink at the restaurant.
Would definitely...
