Great museum but not the best welcome. As a tour guide with small groups I like to visit the Black Isle and my group were interested in Pictish carvings so thought I’d try it. We initially got a great welcome from one of the volunteer ladies who I gave a large donation to. My group very much enjoyed it but then another lady who I’m guessing might of been the supervisor came in and to say the least made me feel like I had ruined her day by bringing my group in. They only have a maximum of 16 pax to be allowed in at one time which I didn’t know but understand, we were 13 and had pretty much the place to ourselves but was spoken too in front of my guests who were buying things from the shop that to call ahead. I totally understand but was the manner I was spoken to especially after myself and my guests had spent quite a bit as donations and from the shop. Great museum and recommend it but attitude wasn’t great. It’s a lovely museum and worth a visit though with lots of good information...

We went to this museum expecting a quick pop-in and to see a few items without much context, hoping we could get a sniff of the local history. Well, the sniff of history was sure experienced!

The volunteer that was there gave us the most interesting and detailed tour and background story I’ve ever heard from someone at a museum. He was full of life and passion about the Picts and the history in Scotland and Rosemarkie. He is a primary school teacher and I just know those kids are incredibly lucky with him.

Kind sir, I forgot your name but you were the highlight of our visit on the Black Isle! Thank you so much for the time and effort, you clearly have a heart for...

We had visited this museum last year and really enjoyed it, so much so that we took our grandchildren there last Weds only to find no one there. We arrived just after 11am when it should open. Thinking may be the person was delayed we went for a walk on the beach and returned just after 12 noon. Still no one. Our grandchildren were extremely disappointed as they are keen on Pictish stones. If there was a problem a note on the door with an explanation would have been useful. This was doubly disappointing as we had enjoyed our previous visit and found the staff...

The Picts rather lead an adventurous life and their disappearance is still a mystery. I learned a lot more about Picts after visiting this place. The evening lecture was superb and if you are a history buff then you should never miss this place. The place contains lots of stuff related to Pictish history. The assistants are very helpful and you can visit this place for free. Don't forget to buy souvenirs when you leave the place.

A hidden little gem if you are interested in the mysterious Picts. The lovely gentleman on the counter takes time to explain and discuss the enigmatic artefacts and to answer your questions. Also a fascinating and kid friendly display on Celtic art, and a refreshingly different gift shop. An added bonus, a lovely little pub just a few yards fiwn the road. Highly recommended all round.

Groam House is a small museum that focuses brilliantly on Scotland’s Pictish heritage and contemporary efforts to promote arts and crafts inspired by that heritage. Especially impressive are the collection of carved stone panels c. 700 A.D. reflecting both the pagan and Christian elements of that culture. Lighting and presentation of the exhibits are outstanding. Admission is free.
