Looking for a nice place to walk and see castles today. We saw this pull up online and it was free so we opt to check it out Very nice grounds and we had a great walk with the toddler and the dog. There is a ton to check out here from two different castles, frozen loch (lots of rocks thrown) a SUPER cheap cafe with great food, a park for the kiddos, and much more. We really enjoyed it the entire time we were here. Highly recommend checking this place out and viewing the castles.

Mugdock Castle Protection to the east, north and west was provided by Mugdock Loch which was much greater in size in the Middle Ages than it is today. A ridge of volcanic rock running from east to west just south of the Castle kept the water level high. This provided the Castle with a natural defence on three sides making it difficult for attackers to mount an assault. When this was removed by blasting in Victorian times, the level dropped by two metres.

Beautifully maintained and preserved Castle ruins dating back to the 13th century in the middle of Mugdock Park. Mugdock Castle was the stronghold of the Clan Graham from the middle of the 13th century. Burned down in 1966 it was gifted to the council for historical upkeep. Lots of signage and information to give insight into the history and most of the site has free unrestricted access. Well worth a visit.

One of the most stunning public parks around. Some phenomenal walks and incredible scenery. Be sure to take the kids to the play park next to the visitors centre and into the wooded area to let them investigate the surrounds. A must visit, especially on a sunny day. Head round to the south car park and walk to the castle from there. A beautiful nature walk

Cute walk through forest to get to the castle, but not large or interactive. There’s some walkways throughout the grounds but it’s really just 4 areas with no access to the inside at all. The garden areas are just fenced off grass but there are a few info boards dotted around about castle features.

A nice old ruin with a fantastic area to walk around and take it the views. You are able get in amongst some of the old buildings but not the main castle. Can quickly become very busy as a popular walking route with people and their dogs.
