In the middle of a modern day housing estate in Prestonpans you will find a rather magnificent 14th century tower in the middle of a grass lawn! The tower has seen a lot of action (wars, riots and battles) between C14 and C18, in particular the 1745 Battle of Prestonpans in which the Jacobite rising army supporting James Francis Edward Stuart defeated that of the Hanovarian King George 11. The buildings and site are now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. At the opposite end of the site from the tower there is a doocot of unusual design.
