Ok, this one surprised me. Travelling around Scotland and this is just a statue right... Just some statue in the middle of nowhere. Seriously....but it has to have 5-stars why?

For those who don't know William Wallace is probably better know to most of you as "Brave Heart Guy" and those who don't know that can probably complete this sentence; "They may take out lives, but they'll never..."

The statue sits on a hill with a spectacular view where due to the hidden nature of the tiny wee car park very few tourists dare to find it. It's one of the quieter tourist attractions and you have the opportunity to shout the immortal address of William Wallace into the Scottish winds where he would definitely...

Dramatic statue with lots of fine detail and made of beautiful local red sandstone. The view from the statue is also stunning with beautiful views over the Tweed valley and the Eildon hills. There are two access points. One from a decent car park specifically for the statue, this route is gravel and has almost no ascent required. The alternative is from the Dryburgh Abbey car park, this route is a very long slow, but significant, ascent on a good dirt path through the forest. These can be made into a loop but only with a significant portion of walking on a very quiet road. The lower option does however offer the opportunity to also visit the abbey, the Statue of the Muse and the footbridge...

amazing tribute to the guardian of Scotland The statue was made of red sandstone by John Smith of Darnick and was erected in 1814. It stands 31 feet (9.4 m) high and depicts Wallace looking over the River Tweed. over the Scottish boarders...I say say I found the Scottish and English boarders very underrated in tourism circles ..the area doesn't get the call out of the other big ticket items but it is a beautiful area ...so much history and many beautiful little towns ...definitely worth spending a few days in this area ...the statue itself is wonderful to see ...pretty short walk to it from the carpark and the views from it very cool ...it doesn't take much time out of your trip...
