My partner and I were married at Samlesbury Hall, and while the venue itself is undeniably beautiful, our overall experience was sadly disappointing due to several avoidable issues that significantly impacted the enjoyment of our day. We chose Samlesbury for its charm and atmosphere, but ultimately felt let down by how many details were either overlooked or poorly communicated.
We spent a lot of time planning our wedding carefully, yet on the day and surrounding it, we encountered a number of problems that could, and should, have been prevented by a more attentive, organised team.
Key issues included: Ceremony music: Playlist wasn’t looped, leaving guests in silence before the ceremony. Non-alcoholic drinks: Pregnant guest wasn’t offered the alcohol-free prosecco we arranged. Glow sticks: Staff misunderstood these were part of our entertainment, used only in final 30 mins. Ceremony privacy: Groom saw me walking up from the window, despite being told this wouldn’t happen. Parlour access: Room was locked without warning, our photo prop was barely used. Bar: Free drinks weren’t communicated to guests, many paid unnecessarily. Dietary needs: Dairy-free desserts weren’t set out and weren’t offered unless specifically requested.
When I raised concerns after returning from my honeymoon, I received a defensive reply dismissing nearly every point. The tone lacked empathy, and there was no acknowledgment of the stress and disappointment caused, despite us being polite and constructive in our feedback.
While no wedding day is perfect, the number of miscommunications, lack of flexibility, and passive attitude in the aftermath left us feeling hurt and frustrated. We put our trust in Samlesbury Hall to deliver a smooth and joyful experience and instead spent too much of the day problem-solving.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Samlesbury Hall to future couples unless there are significant changes made to how they manage and support their events. A beautiful building alone is not enough when the service behind it does not meet the expectations of...
Read moreVisited for 2 days from August 10 with 4 year old granddaughter and my daughter. Husband joined for second night. This is the second visit this year in the huts the first being with my husband and two granddaughters. Both visits very enjoyable. First booked direct and second on a groupon voucher. Would definitely visit again. Probably for the Christmas fair. Huts are well equipped for such accommodation. Double socket with twin USB. Kettle, cups and spoon along with sachet kenco coffee, sugar and milk, but take extra if you drink a lot. Don’t forget pots, pans, cutlery etc and a cooking stove if your not getting a BBQ. S’mores or toasted marshmallows on the fire pit a must. Bench and table outside was well used by us as such lovely days. Good bedding and memory foam firm mattress. Ideal for me. All immaculate. Top bunk a little awkward for mid 50, but got there after practice. We took a air fan this trip as temperatures got to late 20’s and it did the job. Only things I could say would be the toilet seat was not a proper fit. Too small resulting in granddaughter peeing on it and dripping in the floor. So I used anti bac wipes to clean up and they were very dirty when I cleaned the floor so I wiped floor all the way through. Difficult to fill kettle or water bottles due to tap. Maybe consider a higher tap if there’s a refit. When I got a shower and closed door sealant did not look as clean as the rest of the shower. I sprayed anti bac and was not perturbed. ? To a mini fridge if high temperatures are going to be a thing of the future and maybe a ice dispenser in the grounds even if for a charge. Enjoyable glass of red enjoyed in the evening whilst cooking chicken and sausages with salad and potatoes. A lovely wander around the gardens, the Hall that is free and numerous visits to the well done play area. Ice cream from Dotties was a must on arrival and still good. Average price for similar setting. Remember free hall and parking and inexpensive accommodation so well worth it when balancing all of that. Granddaughter...
Read moreWe have been going to Samlesbury Hall for many many years and we have some wonderful memories of past visits (years ago) however since it changed from an antiques centre it has sadly never been the same. A wonderful venue for weddings and the animal section is great for kiddies but today we were very disappointed with our whole experience. We booked a table online in the restaurant for 12 noon and the staff thought our table was for 12.30. Never mind we thought as it gave us time to feed our little one and settle her down before we had our lunch. We had specifically mentioned online that my husband has a strict gluten free diet and even discussed it when ordering our food.....thank goodness he knew the difference between gluten free bread and ‘normal’ bread as he was presented with gluten rich crusty bread with his soup! Once pointed out this was replaced with a toasted roll however it came a good few minutes after he had finished his soup! Portion size is an issue given the price of items but I suppose we must remember we are supporting the upkeep of the Hall. The food was just run of the mill and to be honest a better cheese burger is available at McDonald’s (according to our son-in-law). Two of our drinks were flat and one was completely wrong but these were replaced when the waiter was informed. Service also left a lot to be desired especially as our table was the only occupied one for a good 40 minutes. We were glad to escape and thought a lovely waffle in the Wafflery would be great. My word I have never had such a horrible waffle in my life! At £6 a time I would have expected ice cream with it but instead got a crushed up flake and hot syrup on top. The syrup tasted burnt as it had obviously been in the microwave and I didn’t think waffles were ever made of batter!!! I am obviously not an expert on waffles. Be warned they are rubbery! All in all a very disappointing visit especially as we recommended the place to our son-in-law who had never been before. It will be some time before we...
