From the moment you have parked your vehicle, the options are many. There is an area close to the car park for children to play on swings, climbing frames, play in the sand, and much more. Also near the car park is the cafe / shop where you can purchase refreshments and eat inside or outside. Parking is payable, and if you are a frequent visitor, there is the option to purchase an annual pass or half yearly pass, which is well worth the investment. If you're an occasional visitor, you can pay at the machine near the cafe, providing your registration number, cash only, and it doesn't accept card payments as Dec 2022. Toilets are near the cafe, next to the groundsman's hut. The walks can be as long or short as you choose, and there are many trails to walk your dog(s), and the trails are marked around the vast area, with a trail also leading through to Himley Park. Walking boots or Wellington boots are certainly advisable in the winter months as the ground can be very slippy / muddy. There are plenty of grassy areas for families to have a picnic or to play games with the children/ grandchildren. Tip: Note that the closing times vary due to season so as not to get caught out. All in all, it is a great place to spend an hour or the day...
Read moreAmazing county park with so much to explore and enjoy. Great for families with the play area, awesome for dog walkers with many paths to follow and explore. They have offered camping in the past and I'm hopeful they do again.
The rangers are helpful and friendly and it would be remiss if I didn't mention the Wolverhampton Model Railways club thsy run the miniature railway there.
There really is something for everyone. If you have been pop along. Bring a packed lunch or make sure of the on site shop that does excellent food, ice creams and drinks.
Remember change for parking, because you'll need more than an hour.
Can't recommend this place enough.
Found out today that the country park is the site of a former coal mine. Amazing history right on the door step. Read the articles posted around the refreshments hut, but will be doing some more research on line. I love knowing about local history, the people, the industry, what lay the foundations for what...
Read moreIf I had any sense or considered personal advantage, I'd say it was rubbish and not worth a visit, because at times in the summer it can become overcrowded around the car park and children's play area..and I prefer if quiet as on normal rainy days.. ☔ HOWEVER... its a FANTASTIC site and visit, with play area, extensive walks through woodlands and pastures, lots of wildlife, both busy and tranquil out of the way areas... and cafeterias and refreshments at the Sedgley end car park, and at the Himley golf course and House westerly end... .. Well worth a visit.. you'll definitely return a second plus time.. 😎 *Note.. Its built on the site of the old Baggeridge Colliery, which in the 1960s, was the largest coal mine in Europe (based on tonnage output)... amazing how nature recovers given a...
