A good rule of thumb to follow in Cornwall….. ‘If you can’t park nearby then it’s normally worth the walk for a nicer beach’ Visited this beach many times over several years and it’s still a lovely quiet place to be. Regardless if you park at the lighthouse or at the cove car park it’s a steep path down that is definitely not suitable for those less abled, small children etc However once you make it down to the small stream/bridge your almost there! I would avoid at high tide and a hour either side. The beach is on a steep shelf which drops into the sea quickly so unless your a strong swimmer I would stay on the beach. You also get the occasional seal having a nap on the shoreline. No shops nearby, no toilets, no lifeguards etc

I recommend not sitting near the clffs as they are about ready to collapse. Quite a large, soft sand beach with easy access up to a point. There is a path and steps but they stop at a collection of bolders. Pick your way down to enjoy this beautiful, dog friendly beach. It's location makes it rather secluded. Approaching from east or west you will have an enjoyable walk on the wonderful Coast Path. Most people park near the lighthouse. (Not at the private Boat Cove carpark)

(Updated: if you find the small cave not too far along the cliff from the beach entrance you can see Goblin Gold inside on the cave wall - see pic.) One of my favourite beaches. From the car park to the shore it’s a wonderful experience. Not the easiest place to find or access but not exactly difficult either other than a bit of scrambling over rocks right at the very end (but that keeps many of the big families away.) A bit tight at high tide but beautiful at low tide.

It's quite a walk to Portheras from the Pendeen lighthouse car park but worth it on a lovely day, as we had. From other people's photos there would appear to be a lot more beach when the tide is out but there's still plenty even when it's in. The sand was a lovely colour and texture, the sea a beautiful turquoise and Azure blue. We did lose the sun, behind the cliffs, a little higher up the beach mid-afternoon but there was still plenty of beach left. If the tide is out then I imagine that would be less of a problem anyway. It was far less crowded than other beaches, eg Porthcurno. It is a bit of a scrabble down to and up from the beach, so perhaps an idea not to go too loaded down with gear unless there are plenty of...

This was such a find and so glad we left St Ives to visit here instead. St Ives is a tourist trap and dog trap and was hectic so we left only after 2 hours and headed here. So glad we did. It was epic, beautiful and best of all no dogs!!!!! Becuase it is a trek to find and get to it really keeps the families and large crowds at bay. There were only 4 other people there. Plus a seal and Pup!! No dogs - Thank God!!! I don't mind no facilities etc. We bought our own picnic and enjoyed Peace and Quiet and NO DOG! We finally found a dog free beach in Cornwall!!! We spent 4 hours sat in the sand just admiring the awesomeness the waves and...
