Beware Swimmers! I gave this 1 star because 0 is not available!

I came to this lake 8 days ago after reading an article on ‘I ❤️ MCR’. It talked about Levenshulme Lake as a secret swimming spot along with a number of other places in the Manchester area.

The approach was rubbish filled and dirty. We found somewhere to swim and noticed Anglers on the other side of the bank who we stayed away from. We went in and were treated to some vile sexualised abusive language from an individual on our side of the lake. The individual was on the other side of the bank and not fishing themself, but seemed very angry that we had disturbed whatever they were up to and followed us shouting and threatening us.

It seems that the Anglers there feel the lake belongs to them and are throwing glass on the bank and in the water to deter swimmers. I was cut on my foot from this. There is also a recent post dating from after I was there saying- it is not for swimmers. For the record, the Anglers Association have long since ceased to be associated with the area. But they are now trying to take it over by threatening and bullying others.

If you are a swimmer - be very careful if you go there! There is talk of a new development cleaning up the area and after what I experienced I think that would be...

First noticed this lake on google maps a few weeks sgo..finally arrsnged a visit..approached it from the fallowfield loop. Paths uneven arrived to see the lake and the yellow water lillies coming into bloom. Also the rusting burnt out car and the industrial area to the west. New houses to the south and a school to the north. A hidden oasis. Left by the south west route lots of evidence of dumping at the back of the houses. This route now closed to vehicles by a large fence with just a gap...

As the sun was shining and the sky was blue, we decided to go for a swim. The water is surprisingly clean, given that the lake is in the middle of an industrial area. I wished I had taken aqua-shoes, because there is still a bit of rubbish, but we found a spot to get in and out safely. It was very pleasant sitting on the bank afterwards to eat our picnic lunch, with lots of birds and...

I was curious to visit it due to its fun name. I was a little disappointed at first, it was difficult to find this place but then I was awarded by being able to see some dragonflies. It reminded me of Monet's works. However, there's a lot of waste around - shameful really... this could be a good place when cared of properly.

Lovely little spot. A hidden oasis with factory chimneys in the background just adds to the tranquillity. Watch the ducks playing on the water and just forget yourself for a moment. Wonderful. There is a little muddy path to the lake, so it is not suitable for buggies, especially at the moment with the weather we've had.

Brilliant place for family and teaching the young to fish, all we ask is the other anglers take there rubbish home please, and people who let there dog swim in there just be aware… there is a big pike who is able to bite a dogs leg and tail without Dout, I have seen them swallow small fish with ease
