Only 25 mins drive from Manchester, parking is free- just make sure you don’t block any gates or pathways.
Once you park up, it’s about a 10-15 min walk up to Hartshead pike. If you go when it’s sunny, it’s absolutely stunning. You can see for miles in every direction from the top of the hill. Well worth the trip!!
I spent a good hour wandering around and exploring the area, you could walk further and spend more time there if you want, but an hour is enough as well if you want a quick little adventure.

A place where signalling beacons would be lit and seen as far away as Snowdonia - on a clear day you can see that far. 267 metres above sea level and very windy but you can park and walk there with ease. Children might need help and it is not for those with reduced mobility or vertigo! We loved it because ot the 360 degrees views which are breathtaking- in more ways than one if you go on a very windy day as we did. A shame that the tower is no longer open but it is well...
