What a pointless little grot hole this is. Apologies for emotive language, but this concrete lump looks like all the other concrete Martellos including one just outside Clacton itself, that you could visit without waiting in grey downtown Clacton for the 1 bus each hour. To call it an Arts Centre is an insult to everyone's intelligence not least the community who live in the caravan park surrounding it, so deserve genuine arts interaction rather than a box of colouring pencils and plastic soldiers in a glass case. The staff team are perfectly affable but in spite of friendliness, I don't feel there needs to be 4 of them standing around pointlessly when their energies could be spent in bringing the community in with their art or performance. A wash out. How it has achieved such great reviews from other reviewers is completely senseless. I don't want to criticise them but I've travelled all over the world, to fascinating local libraries, monuments, walls and piles of bricks and this cruddy experience was perhaps the biggest dullest washout I've ever visited. If you're camping 5 minutes up the road and it's pourinh with rain, you could give it a go, otherwise you'd be better advised to chase genuine...
Read moreWhat a fascinating place! Just £1 to come in and look around which I recommend even if it's just to admire the brickwork! Super friendly staff who made a fuss of our dog whom we were happy to be told he was welcome inside. The upstairs section is decorated with all of the renovation pictures and stories, as well as information about usage. Sadly on our visit the rooftop was closed due to nesting seabirds, but I reckon the views are alone worth a trip. One of very few towers that encourage access; the other one nearby at...
Read moreIt's just a pound entry fee, and there are excellent displays about the history of the tower - not a long Ng visit, but well worth it. The top level gives a view over the sea, and inland to Jaywick. There is a portaloo in the car park, no services inside the tower itself. There is a short poem set in a concrete ring around the tower, done in 2015 or thereabouts. It's presentation is not good. A local 'tidy up Jaywick' group, or Parish Council if they have one could massively improve it with some weedkiller and a...
