Great afternoon on Ultimate Assault Course last weekend - Dad (50 this year), Daughter (14) and Son (12) - plus me Mum spectating, which is great as with a buoyancy aid on you can go around the whole course with them - so I was official photographer and videographer!! Our guide Lewis was really great - kind funny and friendly, and he give lots of tips as well as encouragement. It turned out to only be our group of 3 for the session - which I was really surprised about for a sunny sunday in the school summer holidays - however i think that now they do the ultimate day out for £19.95 for a whole day and something like six activities just doing the assault course for £25 is less popular - for us it was perfect - it was the activity they wanted to do, plus we were only in the area for the weekend so did not want to use a whole day up here. The facility is really good, quality build and well maintained and clean. Lots of different types of obstacles, starting with a slide into a deep pool - around half way around the course there is the classic famous jumping out to land on the ball, and a second if you can time it right! there is also monkey bars and scramble pads, cargo nets and climbing walls. The whole course is less than ten mins but you go around each obstacle to experience it all the first time before being offered a timed lap after that, and we had a third lap too given we were a small group to get around it all. My daughter fell over (hmmm on the flat path between two obstacles) and Lewis ran off to get antiseptic wipes and made sure she was ok - off she went back on to the course. Also nice yo be able to have a drink and snack before/after the experience at the onsite cafe. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and even wet trainers all provided on site and suggest you do use theirs even if you have your own as there are bits to catch things on which could cause damage. The high ropes course looked great too, maybe on...
Read moreThey hosted a locals Day so local people could come for a discounted price, how nice! Wasn't quite sure what to expect. Easy to find opposite big sheep. Lots of staff to greet us, get the car parked and get to the meeting area. Currently it is for able people, but you could get down paths with a pushchair or wheelchair for spectating. For the ultimate wipeout wear a swimming costume and old shoes that will get soaked. They provide a wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid. So as long as you can kick your legs or use your arms you generally just float in the water. No lockers but can leave bags of clothes in the changing areas-boys girls men woman. They do a safety tour first. And then you go around as many times within your slot, generally about an hour. A lot of time on your knees, wetsuit has padding. I wasn't cold at all. Very slippery. Staff all there to give your tips and inspire you along to have fun! They had some music on today in the background. Take your phone for photos and videos. Sometimes they have a professional photographer. Take some packed lunch. Or they have a tiny shop. We had a pasty and drink. We then did the high ropes course. So you want dry clothes and dry shoes preferably although ny sheos were soaked and make it fine. Wear some comfortable clothes and they give you a harness and helmet. They do all the checks to ensure the kit is applied properly. There is a low course and a high course to choose. You get hooked on one at a time and then follow each other around. For adults great although still scary, for children those who have confidence and are adventurous in my opinion. I made it around but it was hard. Take your time. The staff are all encouraging. I am glad I did this and will be booking again for a fun day out 😊 Spectators...
Read moreA highlight of our trip! We went on the assault course as a group of (grown up) friends - you'll want to book in advance! It's a chance to have a go at some obstacles that you might've seen on tv. They take you through it slowly at first and then you can do a timed lap if you wish. I think it's best if you are of a similar ability as then you can help each other, but most people that can climb onto something at waist height and crawl through tunnels should be able to complete this course. A stag group was merged with us to make a group of 20 and I was worried that they'd be too boisterous and we'd all be getting in each other's way but actually the course is big enough that we could all do it at our own pace and they were great. Instructors were quite hands off and let you get on with it as long as you were being safe. Warning - very little is inflatable and so you should expect some bumps and bruises from the wooden obstacles, but as long as you don't mind then you should have a great time! This was definitely a highlight of our stay in Bideford! Such a good laugh. Just make sure to bring someone to photograph you as there isn't the technology here to buy the footage or anything (maybe something to explore in...
