A day out at the BIG sheep... we got there when it opened and left when it was closing - kids enjoyed it, but I think they were the right age to make use of everything (if they were teenagers for example I'd imagine they probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much!)
The site isn't really that massive if you compare with other theme parks, but if you plan in some of the shows, there is plenty to keep you busy. We started with a go on the chair swing ride, then the pedalos, and whilst in that direction went up to laser tag (additional charge - £5 per person for 15 mins (ish!)) The guys doing laser tag were ultra friendly and nice. Whilst we all did this and enjoyed it, if your young 'un is quite small they may struggle to carry the laser gun!
The first show we watched was the duck trials, which was amusing. Also watched the the sheep show which was actually far more interesting and informative than I was expecting. Kids also had a go at the lamb feeding, which felt a little like organised chaos with the volume of people - but they had fun with this too. The last show we watched was the sheep race - it only lasts a few mins but good fun!
My eldest really enjoyed the rollercoaster (largest in devon), but again it was age appropriate for a younger thrill seeker! The train ride was a nice pleasant relax for 10 mins, and the tractor ride (located near the train) took you round the fields where some of the other animals are located.
In terms of animals, as you can imagine, there is loads of sheep!! You can feed the sheep and see the goats in the barn area as well as see some rabbits, ducks and guinea pigs. Just don't expect anything overly exotic - it's a farm theme park!
I'm not personally a fan of soft play, but as expected, the kids 100% wanted to go in. Thankfully, they opened a room upstairs, which made it feel a little less like a normal softplay - and to be fair, the attraction at this softplay was 3 large slides.
For extra bounce, there was also some jumping pillows - always great fun, although just got to be careful about volume of people on them. If one person loses their footing then you can literally watch kids fall over like dominos!
Food / drink was a reasonable price throughout depending on what you were purchasing. Eg. Some ice creams were about £2 each ish. Steak pasty was about £5. We took snacks in with us so we didn't rely heavily on needing to purchase loads. There is also a shop as you leave for usual gifts etc. (As well as local beers and ciders - and gin).
We had a fabulous day, and I'm sure if I asked the kids, they would love to visit again - and to be fair, I wouldn't be opposed to...
Read moreThe Big Sheep is everything and more of what I remember from a child last time I came was about 2000 and remember very little but the excitement and how amazing it was so much so IV returned with my family to show them how great this place is now with rollercoaster! So there is a few rides there now but that wasn't the reason we came and we let the kids on them before getting to the sheep show learn about lambs the different types of sheep and ducks shows #yepduckshows we fed the lambs and the sheep while Amy fell in love with the puppies so much so the staff had to put the lid back on! Bunnies and larmas and a tractor ride with Tom the amazing joke teller (not! his words too lol) lovely guy though and then the sheep race was fantastic I'm not sure why the bad protests which we seen non but had seen in the news when you can clearly see they are well looked after not forced around believe me mine walked it and they are fed and watered at the end the race only lasts one to two minutes and you can place fun bets I presume the proceeds go to the upkeep. We then ventured to the air pillow and took down the kids because as a parent that is you god given right... And the only acceptable place to throw your kids around lol disclaimer no tears were made from the kids! Just me when they all went savage. So moving on the the self pedal tractor karts where I was determined to earn back some credibility but unfortunately I didn't fit into one so had to resort to pushing the youngest around as she couldn't reach the pedals (sad face) our time was up and made our way to the gift shop realised we missed the brewery (Amy way very angry at this due to the missed test testing) the only thing to defend my self the obligatory fridge magnet (s) and a fluffy sheep teddy and a quick chat to the cashier who had been there since we arrived in the morning still talked to us with a smile asking the kids how there day was and how I remembered the special place from years ago. She was amazing just like the place. Don't go expecting a major theme park it's not about that this is a family ran and has amazing...
Read moreWe absolutely loved The Big Sheep! We went during half term week and it wasn't too busy, which meant our boys could go on everything as much as they wanted! The roller coaster was surprisingly fast but our nearly 4yr old loved it. There was a train, quad bikes to ride, two bouncy pillows, a swing merry go round, which went very fast and quite high, we also did the shooting range for an extra cost. We also really loved the shows they put on; The Sheep Show, where they bring out 9 different breeds of sheep all with very funny personalities; the Duck Herding show, where a Border Collie herds the ducks through different gates; and Lamb Feeding, this was done really well to ensure every child got a go at holding the bottles! Both our boys (aged 9 and nearly 4), really enjoyed their day there. Our eldest even won his bet on which sheep would win the Sheep Race nearer the end of the day, so he got a mug to take home. As it was half term, they had pumpkins everywhere which they were giving away for free, they had put on pumpkin carving and other Halloween crafts. They also had a pumpkin trail around the park and, at the end, they were given a pack for completing it which contained an activity book, stickers, temporary tattoos, sweets and a pot of slime, which the boys were over the moon with! Throughout the day, the staff were fantastic, really chatty and funny with their show commentary, often sneaking in adults type jokes which made the grown ups laugh but went over the heads of the kids. The only reason we didn't give The Big sheep 5* was because the cafe is pretty limited on what they sell. Everything was aimed at something with chips. They did offer a soup of the day but there were now normal sandwiches or salads/fresh items. Three of us got panini's, which we kind of expected to come on a plate with a bit of salad and some crisps maybe, but this was brought out in a paper bag which was too hot to handle. The kids picnic box, which my youngest had, was good and contained a lot of items. Overall, we would definitely go back, but would probably...
