We recently visited the Thatched Inn whilst on holiday in Devon, and this was the 1st time eating out since lockdown began. I’ll start with the Coved-19 procedures – yes it’s a bit weird but the organisation and staff (who are hugely friendly and welcoming) at the Thatched Inn handle it brilliantly so it doesn’t impact on your enjoyment. Everything has been thought through so it is clear what is expected of you and is enough to make you feel safe.

We chose to eat outside as it was a nice day but inside the pub it was well spaced out. The beer garden was amazing and bursting with colour with all of the plants, umbrellas and tables!

The food and drink were great too – it was so nice to have a well-kept draught ale! I always think a good measure of the quality of a pub that serves food is the approach to the kid’s meals – and the Thatched Inn get it spot on as they are just small versions of the adults meals. My wife and I both had amazing fish and chips with light and crispy batter that wasn’t at all greasy, and my son had an equally good fish and chips but at half the size. My daughter opted for the cheeseburger which was just thinner than the adults burgers (we saw another table have them) but with the same type of bun. Despite the burger being the same size as her head, and her being a small 6 year old girl she confounded us by eating nearly the whole thing (we thought she’d struggle with half of it) as it was “just so yummy”. All of us finished off with really good ice cream, and left very very very happy to go to The Big Sheep down the road.

My only complaint – it’s a 5 hour drive from home if we want to go back again so it’s not exactly convenient. Having said that we’ve booked a holiday in Devon for next year and we’ll definitely be...

I have only put one star as you cannot put less.

The night started off great with good drinks and great company. We had a table booked for 6 people at 19:45 however didn't get seated until 19:55. This wasn't an issue as the restaurant was busy as expected. We then ordered the food and half an hour after waiting for food we got told the kitchen is behind and there would be a long wait for food... Would of been good to have been told when we ordered. The staff gave us a round of drinks for the wait which was fine with us all. We then finally got the food at 21:00 which was cold. I have never left a review or complained in my life time. After waiting for food and it turns up cold was a massive shock. With the price and the reviews of the food we expected it to be amazing and was all looking forward to it. When we complained about the food the staff did not deal with it in a good way. We said we would pay for the 2 of the 6 meals which was eaten and the manager had a really bad attitude regarding this. We was still expected to pay 84 pound of the bill of 140 pound even though none of the meals were finished. We ended up paying just for the drinks which was less than we offered to pay for and also ended up being banned from the establishment. Really poor customer service skills. The managers attitude has ruined our holiday and to be fair if we wasn't banned we would not return. Horrendous experience. Maybe a change in some of the...

Went to the Thatched Inn in Abbotsham today & only gone & found another gem of a pub, this lovely 14th century pub has loads of character. Again we were greeted & welcomed in & asked what we would like to drink by the very friendly bar manager, I of course went for the local paleale called Shore Break from Country Life Brewery based in North Devon which went down very well. After perusing the menu we made our choices to which I went for the slow roasted Beef Short Rib with sweet potato mash, asparagus, baby corn & beef & rosemary just. This dish was amazing & cooked to a T, the meat just fell off the bone & when combined with the buttery mash & veg it was a pleasure for my taste buds to eat. Dawn chose the Panko crumbed Chicken Katsu Curry with white rice & pickled vegetables which was equally delicious as my dish. Dan went for the 8oz Pulled Brisket Burger, Macaroni & Koffman fries. This just like my beef rib was very juicy & cooked superbly. Overall all 3 dishes were excellent & presented very well & considering the chef is only 16 I think he will become one of the best local chefs in the south west if he keeps this up. Thank you to all the staff here for making this visit an enjoyable & memorable one & keep up the good...

We decided to go to the thatched inn for a pint and a pub lunch. Wow. We were not expecting to be so impressed. We parked right outside on the road next to the pub, we brought our dog and the place is very accommodating, there is a gorgeous outdoor seating area with plenty of cover from the rain and there’s even heaters in there too. We ordered red velvet prawns (on the specials board) and calamari to share as starters and my dad was super impressed with the calamari, we’ve tried many calamari’s in many different places and this was absolutely delicious. For mains we had two fish and chips and one loaded katsu chips. Again very delicious fresh made food. We did not expect to be so impressed. When we next end up in bideford this will be the first place we come back to for sure!

Right little gem off a place! Where to start, very easy to book a table either online or by phone. Warm welcome when we got there. We were a large party of 10 and this posed no problem. To the most important the food. You will not be disappointed at all. The food is to die for, if you want a challenge get try the monster burger. But I can assure you what ever to.order you will love. If you like the main course you wait until you try the desserts. Too the young man who served us, we can not thank you enough for you patience and for your interaction with us and our youngest lad who has additional needs, it really made our day and meal special. What ever you do whilst you visit bideford, make time to eat and drink here. Can not rate it enough.
