Sprouts Playbarn at Millets Farm in South Oxfordhsire has won best soft play since the Red Kite Days awards started. Indoors it has a huge multi level soft play with areas for all ages. For warmer days they have a great outdoor playground too and the cafe serves great coffee and cake. #milletsfarm #milletsfarm_abingdon #abingdon #frilford #softplay #oxfordshireblogger

What a little gem.....loads for the kids, loads for the adults and I highly recommend the bird of prey shows - they were amazing!!! It doesnt cost anything to enter - there is plenty to do without spending money but if you can afford to, the paying attractions were worth it.....oldy worldy fair rides (carousel, ferris wheel etc) £3 a ride. Garden centre, farm shop, a soft play barn which although we didn't use looked absolutely humongous (pay separately to use and apparently booking in advance was a must) they have a maize maze which we didnt use and was 8.99 entry and a pick your own area......lots of free things to do - plenty of farm animals, a play park, a lovely picnic area with a nice walk. I didn't see what the place with the birds pf prey was called but it was brilliant for the price (10.95 adults, 8.95 for kids (babies free)), you could use the place all day popping in and out, shows were at 11, 1, 3 and otter feeding at 4 and all the shows had different birds including a kookaburra and storks which I thought was very unique. Other animals they had were skunks, raccoons, marmosets, wallabys you can walk amongst, lemurs, owls, falcons, storks and even a tank of teeny weeny harvest mice at the entrance which was cool!!....the butterfly house was also amazing (although not so much on the hottest day of the year 😉)......just a lovely place I would go there again today if I didn't have to work!!!!

Mainly visit for the Frosts Garden Centre, but the little pop up market stalls/shops are nice and Soame Interiors (not to be confused with Soane interiors) has some nice homeware items. The farm shop is nice and has some great fresh food and veg and some nice gift-able food items. The Frosts garden centre is great for outdoor plants, compost etc - big selection and reasonably priced. The range inside is getting there but could be so much better - the houseplant section is lacking and could really provide more and have a bigger impact. The homeware is generic and found in every other high street homeware shop, the clothing and kids/stationery stuff at the back I never bother looking at, as it doesn’t look very appealing. The biggest thing to avoid is the restaurant/cafe located next to the farm shop! Went for lunch on my birthday, left with food poisoning, we were ill for 2 days and it ruined our holiday. The restaurant was also very noisy with a lot of kids whose parents don’t seem to care where they are or what they’re doing. Avoid avoid avoid. Pumpkin patch pick-your-own in the autumn is pretty good and priced okay. There’s farmyard animals to go and see and a falconry centre, and various other things which pop up throughout the year which is great for engaging the local community. We go to Millets every couple of weeks, but will never ever eat from there again!

I first visited last year when a raccoon experience I’d booked for my brother was taking place in the wildlife area. It was a wet, damp & extremely dismal day so I was surprised to find the place was packed with minimal parking spaces to be found - they have a lot of spaces. So many people that trying to enter the garden centre was near-on impossible. I wandered around the free farm area section (the drinks hut in the picnic area sells lovely sausage rolls; some of the best I’ve ever tasted) avoiding running/screaming children & people with out-of-control dogs & promised I’d not go back, however, my brother said that the wildlife area was lovely & he thought we should give it another chance at a later date. This we did a few weeks back, however, it was the last day of the school holidays & if I thought it was busy with ferals running about before, it was ten-times worse this time; not the fault of the farm at all, although a member of staff telling the group of lads kicking footballs at everyone sitting trying to eat their lunch at the picnic area would have been nice, as the parents were nowhere to be seen. Whilst I love to see kids playing I don't want a ball landing on my head when I'm eating. We headed into the cafe inside the garden centre where we ate some overpriced food that I’m pretty sure had been heated in a microwave - I say this because my chilli nachos were ice cold in the middle yet burning hot on the outside. Who sells jacket potatoes without offering butter? My travel companion was most disappointed in this. Because of such a busy & disappointing experience we decided not to stop. Third time though was definitely the luckier time. We were at a loose end in the area with a few hours to spare so gave it another shot & it did not disappoint. The garden centre area is what it is; a garden centre. The queuing system is non-existent & it’s quite easy for rude, ignorant middle-aged men to push in front of you. A group of elder ladies behind me were very vocal in their dissing of the queue & lack of open tills, however, that’s par for the course in most garden centres, & shops these days so to be expected. This time we chose to eat in the cafe next to the farm shop. Arriving just past 11am we were too late for the breakfast we were wanting, however, I can highly recommend the chelsea buns, the best I’ve ever tasted. Apparently the iced bun was good too. The tea is a little weak, again, not unusual for cafes but the pot it came in was huge & shared between two of us, both getting three cups full out of it. The queuing system again caused a lot of consternation from other’s waiting as they felt people were queue jumping but the staff have a great system & you get your drinks in the order you paid for them so take note if you’re planning to visit. We sat inside as it was raining but there is a lot of seating outdoors too. I also liked the family area (although the group of women with children who could have used this area decided to seat themselves in the main area even though the family side was empty) & I love that they have a quiet area, however, this was filled with ‘ladies who lunch’ & they were anything but quiet. The farm shop was stocked with all you would expect - I can highly recommend the cherry pie! The fruit and veg was of good quality. The butchery was well-stocked but the staff all appeared as if they would rather be somewhere else & were happily chatting about their weekend plans in the back whilst two of us were there waiting to be served - they knew we were there too - & it pains me to say it but the meat I bought (pork, beef and lamb) was completely flavourless. A real shame as I use my local farm shop at home because their food & quality is so good. Prices for everything were as you would expect. A lot more expensive than a greengrocer or local butcher, but they have a good range of stock & did I mention how good the cherry pie in the farm shop was? I can highly recommend the wildlife centre; costs extra but really worth it.

We've been to Millets farm many times, we love seeing the animals, playing at the park, going on the carousel and going on the mini diggers and ride on tractors. We've never been to the PYO, our local PYO is closed on a Monday and we really wanted to pick strawberries with my parents, so we headed to Millets, which is about 45 minutes from where we live, a long drive but always worth it. However, we found that the PYO is hugely overpriced!! We arrived at the pyo kiosk after going on the carousel (£2.50pp, cash or card), seeing the animals and having lunch at the restaurant. But we were very disappointed to find out that we would have to pay £1.50 per person to get in AND the punnet of strawberries would cost £8.50. We simply could not justify spending £16 to get 1 punnet of strawberries, so we had to reluctantly turn around and head home. We will never visit the pyo at this price, it's absolutely way too much. You could buy more punnets for a slightly discounted rate, but in comparison our local pyo (Rectory Farm) you don't have to pay to get in and the punnets (although smaller) cost between £3-4 and is calculated based on weight. I feel like Millets is getting a bit greedy, it was always a nice place to visit for a reasonable day out with the family, but more and more parts of it you have to pay for, which I don't mind in principle, but they're not cheap, and when you have a family in tow it can end up being £60 upwards to enjoy some activities, and have lunch. We won't hurry back. We did however find a lovely popup stall there selling handmade baby clothes, Do Little Dumplings and a pair of beautiful leggings there cost less than 1 punnet of strawberries would have cost us and they'll last a whole lot longer!!

This is a fantastic farm shop garden centre with novelty bits between the two. There is a nice area to walk down to a large pond with seating around too. The farm shop has a huge selection of vegetables and fruit, drinks cheeses preserves biscuits and more and an on site butcher. They appear to have areas with seasonal food too we visited in December and there was plenty of Christmas themed extras. The garden centre at the end is as good a large selection of plants for indoors and outdoors. They also change things seasonally it had a huge Christmas selection. There are two choices on places to eat the garden centre has a smaller menu more cafe style whilst the farm shop has a more restaurant style. Both serve a good selection of food and the garden centre food we had was really good as were their staff Between the two buildings there are a selection of huts / tents selling a variety of things from garden ornaments unusual larger house display items an clothing. If you are close it's well worth a visit, give yourself plenty of time to browse you can easily loose a number of hours here. We have visited a number of times and normally spend a few hours there.
