Great walk around the lake. Gets busy on warm days. Pay for parking and the main building has a cafe and only toilets on site. There are clubs and activities information here also. P There is a train for kids (pay) The cafe serves basics (cold sandwiches, toasties, jacket spuds, sausage rolls, Crisps, pasties, and bacon, sausage sandwiches, cold and hot drinks and alcohol etc) no burgers of stuff like before. The walk is gentle all around but for one stretch where it is a decline and incline (near the old beach area) Plenty of dogs everytime we visited (leashed) Walking and in and out of the water. Ice cream vans at 3 different locations (card payment only) The park has activity points all around so that will keep the kids busy. Ducks n geese and swans always present and you can feed them (be sensible). There is also a 2nd lake as a nature reserve (separate path through wooded area) Walk or just sit on the grass, seen many portable BBQs and picnics. Kids park is great, just let them roam and play, very safe for them. It used to have a zip line but thus has been removed. Kids at one point swam and paddled in the beach area but this is not advised...

Been here a few times. Always a nice walk around the lake. It’s quite flat so handy for pushchairs, bikes, wheel chairs etc. it’s about 2.6km. There is a small train that runs a little way round the lake. One of these trains that you straddle to sit on so no designated seats. Fun for small and big kids! There is a cafe that serves hot food and drinks. There is also a couple of ice cream vans to chose from. A nice play area, zip line for young children. On the walk around the lake is a bird hide or two and always plenty of ducks and swans to see. Plus wooden activities to do as you walk around. It’s a pay and display car park. Think we paid £2 for 4 hours. The only disappointment on this visit was the amount of rubbish that had been left. Bins were over flowing and rubbish just randomly left about. This was not nice to see and definitely not good for the environment or any inquisitive swans! So come on Pugneys, get your finger out and keep up with the rubbish especially knowing that on warm days you get a lot...

Lovely place for a nice walk. Nice kids playground. But two things for me bring this down from 5 star. 1) parking - I don't agree with having to pay to park in a park. Used to be free but now Wakefield Council charge. Additionally if you are going to charge at least install ticket machines that take card! 2) the 2 ice cream vans that seem to have the contract to park here a) have their engines on constantly spewing diesel fumes into the park and b) sell genuinely the most expensive ice creams I have ever seen. The prices at the vans are ridiculous for your standard 99 whippy.

Alas I have a suggestion for those who have read this far to avoid both the extortion and get a better quality ice cream. Sandal Castle is nearby. Parking there is free and they have a cafe that sells beautiful ice cream at a more reasonable price. From Sandal Castle you can do a nice circular walk that takes in pugneys. Approx 4.8km walk compared to pugneys alone which...

Took the dog for a walk round the lake. 1.6miles round about 50 minutes stroll. Completely flat pathway. Nice and easy. Great for kids as theres a small kiddies pkayground and various obstacles and things for them to try to do as you walk round the lake. Theres a pathway to Sandal castle if you want to do that as well. Small beach and plenty of benches and seats as you walk round so you can park yourself if you need a rest. Theres a minature railway for adults and kids. £1 single or £2 return. Small train station and platforms. Plenty of parking. £1 hour. £2.5 up to 4 hours. £4 for all day. Theres a cafe by the carpark inside and outside seating. Sandwiches and the like. Lots of wildlife so worth taking the binocs. Wooden hut hides to sit in so you can watch the wildfowl swim by. Ducks, geese and Swans. Fishing allowed during season with rod license. About £3.60 per day but not absolutely sure. May be £3.50. Well worth it.

I had mixed feelings on this park... we had a leisurely walk round, which was nice... and the kids had good fun on the playground... but I can't help but think it could have all been a little better. I will try to explain... I guess the fact that there was a small amount of drizzle didn't help even though it was pretty warm in the afternoon. The miniature railway decided not to open due to the early weather situation. Car park, I felt should have been free or nominal amount. Cafe had long waits. Ice cream van was expensive (or at least far more expensive than I expected it to be). Toilet facilities were fairly small considering size of park. Then there was the doggy do do's... not sure why some owners fail to pick up after their dog but either way at least one of my children manage to run or walk in to it... So all in all, I struggled to rate it high, but certainly not terrible (despite my experience!)
