Once upon a time, in the mystical land of Fairy Glen, a group of eager travelers approached the enchanted gate of the natural reserve. The air was filled with anticipation and wonder as they marveled at the lush greenery and shimmering streams that lay beyond. Little did they know that a grumpy troll lurked nearby, guarding the entrance with a scowl upon her face.
As the travelers prepared to enter, an old woman, with a weathered face and a twinkle of mischief in her eyes, dashed towards them. She spoke in a stern and gruff voice, demanding payment for passage into the magical realm. Alas, the travelers, being modern souls accustomed to digital currencies, had no coins to offer but were willing to pay through the wonders of technology.
With kind hearts and resourcefulness, they proposed to transfer the fee via bank accounts, PayPal, or even Venmo. However, the old woman, who seemed to have little patience for the modern ways, became even more agitated. Her demeanor turned from stern to downright scary as she dismissed their digital offers with a wave of her gnarled hand.
"Leave!" she shrieked, her voice echoing through the glen. "No coins, no entry!" Her words were filled with anger and disappointment, casting a dark cloud over the travelers' spirits. They reluctantly turned away, their excitement fading like a waning moon.
And so, my friends, I caution you in your own adventures through Fairy Glen. Should you wander into the clutches of the grumpy troll and her stubborn insistence on coins, ensure you carry the old-fashioned currency with you. For though the beauty of Fairy Glen beckons, it is best to tread carefully and be prepared to appease the guardians of this magical realm.
May your future journeys be filled with kinder encounters and may you always carry the means to unlock the secrets that lie within the realms...
Read moreWonderful little gem of a place and worth the effort! You'll need £1 coin for each visitor and each car to cover maintenance. Paid either in the honesty box or to the lady at the cottages when she's there. Wear VERY sturdy shoes and dogs must be on a lead. Great little spot and gorgeous photo opportunities if it's ☀️ ☀️☀️ Opens out into a small lake which is so tranquil (apart from the main road noise, sadly) and a great picnic spot (but sadly only two picnic tables). Couple of signs on the main paths but then you can end up going off-piste like we did and scrambling over rocks and steep slopes🫣😱 There are a couple of benches along the way and lots of tiny routes off the main path but usually dead ends. Finally, you reach some very steep steps (will be very slippy if wet). The finale is breathtakingly beautiful with powerful water charging through the rocks. We went when the sun was shining down so it was incredibly picturesque. The dog wasn't happy tho'! I had to carry her so she could sit with us on the large boulders. Great place to build little stone piles so I built some fairy steps🙌🏼 Please leave no trace of being here and take your litter HOME. It was so sad seeing cans left on the rocks and a coffee take-out cup and water bottle left in the...
Read moreGet your walking boots ( or at least sturdy shoes with decent grip) on. Initially you park in the small private car park, there is a fee. and walk up the drive to the gate to the field. A short distance leads you around the field and a choice of direction. To the left and up a slight incline takes you to the top of the river, rapids over boulders. It can be damp / muddy under foot. Not for the less than sure footed, or anyone with a physical health condition. The trail leads up to the top, and a glance over the edge reveals a significant drop to the river and rocks. Finally a descent down the the waters edge requires surefootedness and stamina via the natural stone and root bound steps. A treat, if is sunny. The route to return is the way you came down. Back at the top, there is an option to continue, rather than return direct to the carpark. A gently sloping walk takes you down to the widened river, now calm, and picnic table. Continue round and it brings you back to the lower walk back to the field and car park. You could spend Hours whiling away the time, but a walk and look will need at least...
