Quiet, dog-friendly beach hidden away around the back of Weston. Relaxing and chilled - but there isn't an enormous amount here - across the 1.5-mile stretch of the beach there's a hotel/restaurant combo, a single fish & chip shop & general store, a tea room, and a small convenience hut at the main car park. The parking situation has been significantly improved in recent years. A bus to & from Weston/Brean also services the beach, from the same car park.
Slightly in-land, a few minutes' walk, you can find a local pub and another shop, and The New Castle restaurant. There's a range of holiday parks, but they're generally all for residents only.
The beach itself is beautiful and oft-forgotten, though. At the height of summer it can be used as a normal beach, but it is primarily used for dog walking and horse riding. It's windy in the colder months, but beautiful all-year round.
The northern end of the beach is overgrown with grass. The entire beach is two-tiered as a tidal defense.
The tide is huge; you'll only see the sea up-close for an hour or so a day. But if you check the tide times, you can catch it. It is not particularly safe to go out onto the mud flats to...
Read moreMost people I know have fallen in love with this beach which starts at Kewstoke Beach on Worlebury Headland and is part of the Main Sand Bay Beach that goes all the way to Sand Point National Trust Headland, slightly under 2 miles and flat with views on a good day all the way to South Wales Coast. My favourite beach on the coast from Portishead to Burnham, very popular with dog walkers. Sand bay Kiosk at the bus terminal car park serves great coffee, cakes and cheap sandwiches and also plenty of dog related things including Ice cream for dogs ! Most people are friendly say hello and love dogs. Popular from very early till dusk with dog owners. Cyclists are not always appreciated BUT from Sand bay Kiosk to Sand Point is a cycle way NOT the footpath closest to road but the one closest to beach, some will shout at you but it is marked on all maps, just cycle carefully and give way to people and Dogs, the other footpath is for...
Read moreOne of my favourite beaches along the North Somerset South West coastal region. A few opportunities of Cafes for a pit stop mid walk or pre/post walk. Amazing views across the Bristol Channel to Wales, Flat Holm, The Old Pier and Sand Point. The beach is wonderful for beach combing as the tide washes in strange objects of timber, seaweed lines the tidal reach. The sand tends to be clean with thanks to the many volunteer beach cleaners who bag up rubbish and plastic waste washed up daily. Cleanliness rating is 8/10 as the council do not scrape the beach here to clean daily so be careful if children or pets mingle among the debris/seaweed washed up. Watching the sunsets here during the seasons is so rewarding as the sun drops in front of you behind the Welsh hills. A dog...
