A Parent's Life Saver: A Review You Didnât Know You Needed
Let me set the scene: One toddler, crying over a toy. One baby, who couldnât care less about anything except breastfeeding (which, of course, led to the real challenge of the day: trying to feed said baby while keeping the toddler from launching into a full-blown meltdown). Oh, and the restaurant? Cozy. Very cozy. I was very aware of the size of this place as my toddlerâs screams echoed across the room.
Now, as any parent knows, thereâs this delicate balance between teaching your child valuable lessons and not being publicly humiliated by their tantrum. I couldâve taken the easy route and bought the toy, which would have quieted the situation but potentially led to a future of demanding tantrums. Or, I could go with the hard optionâsay ânoâ and deal with the chaos. As you can guess, I opted for the hard choice.
Enter the miracle workers of this restaurant. The owner and staff? Absolute legends. The owner, bless her soul, went above and beyond. While I was juggling breastfeeding in one hand and trying to keep a tiny human from flipping the table in rage with the other, she casually came over and started speaking to my toddler. Not only did she distract him, but she actually played with him, making him laugh and calming him down. I honestly thought I had entered some kind of parental utopia where tantrums are cured with a sprinkle of magic.
And then, just when I thought I couldnât be more grateful, it gets better. The toilets? Immaculate. Clean, fresh, and exactly what a parent needs when dealing with the aftermath of a busy day out. And hereâs where it truly gets heartwarming: The owner offered to watch my toddler while I changed my daughter. Now, I donât make a habit of leaving my child with a stranger, but the staff and owner made me feel like I had known them for years. Itâs not often you find a place where you feel completely at ease with the people around you, but they nailed it.
As the owner reassured me with a smile, âDonât worry, I love noisy children.â Well, with those words, she immediately cemented her status as a parenting hero. She didnât just get itâshe understood, and her kindness and support made all the difference.
And the food? Letâs just say I mightâve been close to losing my mind, but that huge plate of deliciousness in front of me helped remind me that life is still good. It was amazing, with portions that left me full and happy, and the kind of meal that made me forget I was in the middle of a parenting disaster. As most parents of toddlers know, you order food for your little one, and they usually eat about one bite before losing interest. Not here! My toddler actually enjoyed his mealâso much so that he only stopped eating because the kids' portion could easily feed an adult.
So, to the staff and ownerâthank you. You saved my day, and my dignity, with your patience, kindness, and sheer awesomeness. If youâre a parent and need a place to eat where your toddler wonât get judged for having a meltdown over a toy, this is your...
Read moreWent to Sand Bay, one of my fiance & I happy places. After a stroll on the beach we had something to eat at Sand Bay Fish & Chip shop. Social Distancing was in place, 1 customer in shop, customers were given a number & given approximate time that order would be ready, which in our case was about 10 mins due to being so popular & busy. There are tables/seating on a patioed area, where we waited for our order. The staff were very friendly, politicians & helpful. The food was well worth the waiting for. I had fish & chips with mushy peas, the fish was cooked really well with a light tasty batter and the peas which came in a pot were thick & tasty. My fiance had a minted lamb pie with cheesy chips which she said were delicious, commenting that the pie was the best she had tasted in a long time. My daughter, her partner & 2 grandchildren had an Hawaian pizza with chips and my daughter had the same as my fiance. All commented how tasty the food was, the good sized portions and value for money (I paid for the whole order đ) and agree is was amazing value. My fiance & I will definitely visit again when we visit & would happily recommend to anyone visiting...
Read moreI've awarded a bonus star for the location and an OK portion size, everything else deserves no stars at all. Chips are almost stale and cardboard like but I don't doubt they are cooked fresh, more the quality and that they're probably bought in frozen. The same can be said for the fish, rubbery and lacking any flavour at all. The kick in the teeth was the ordering system, it was horrendous. Now I know covid has affected every business in someway but there must be a more clever way to tackle the problem. You go in, order and pay, then back outside with an order number, then called up when it's ready. In principle, a fast food order system does work but in order for it to work the orders need to be just that.... fast, which they are not! Chip shops are designed with big hot plates, so why not keep the food stocked up sufficiently, rather than a fast food system that quite obviously doesn't work. We'll be coming back to the area but will eat...
