Arrived just before dusk for a walk and to try to see the Nightjars. We were not disappointed with lovely male calling from the trees and a female flying directly over us at dusk for a good ten minutes. An excellent example of the conservation work of the RSPB.

The site becomes increasingly interesting with time. A crossbill was the most notable sighting

Absolutely fabulous place, loads of walks in a variety of environments.Didnt see a dartford warbler, but will visit again. Saw a variety of others, including birds of prey. There is a visitor centre, but it is not obvious. Very welcoming when we found it on our second visit. The downside, some people walking their dogs totally ignored the signs on certain areas to put them on leads at this time of year and one particular couple did not clear up their dog's mess! Disgraceful!

We would rate this second to...

Wonderful place for diverse bird habitats and rare species. We were delighted to see a Dartford Warbler and stonechats sunbathing in January. Sad to see a spaniel chasing a roe deer, there are so many places to walk a dog wildlife reserves would be so much better...
