A place like nothing else I have ever visited. An original theme park from the Victorian era, with an awful lot of beautiful views, strange nooks and crannies and fantastic scenery.
Went during the October half term event where they had an adventure trail for children with actors and things to find. Very engaging people, and the kids got a certificate at the end!
The route we took was approx 3.5 miles and took about 3.5 hours with the various stops and climbing up things as kids invariably do!

If you can do it, you should go, the follies are interesting, the terrain is fascinating, the views are excellent and some brilliant moments in tunnels, at viewpoints, bridges, etc. etc. Take trail shoes and refreshments though as the on site cafe is appalling; one of our group had to go find a member of staff who then told us no hot food and it was lunchtime, about 10 people walked in and back out again while we drank our tea, as nobody...
   Read moreWe keep coming back every few years, it's over an hour from where we live but worth the journey. It's great for kids and adults alike and dogs can go too. It's a Victorian ' theme park' with plenty of natural and man made attractions like follies , caves , bridges , little nooks and crannies to explore. You need to take a picnic, the cafe is only at the start/end and really is very basic. There's a shop to buy torches and other tourist memorabilia.
