St Oswald’s has a fascinating history. It has the distinction of being the church where the captain of the Titanic had his wedding ceremony. It also has the distinction for the discovery of three gigantic skeletons under the chancel floor, some 8 to 10 feet below ground level, lying on a vault, when repairs were started on the building in 1828 AD.

Where the wedding of the Titanic captain took place, A tudor ceiling with a rare Tudor knight/clergy brass, a Tower started in 1350, mentioned in Domesday book, a 10th century anglo saxon cross head to name a few. Who would have thought so much history could be seen on the way into Warrinton. Really friendly people too highly recommended visit.

Here to ring the bells. They are heavy going with very long drafts and are an anticlockwise ring. The tenor bell is 16cwt in F. Five of the bells, 1,2,3,5 and 6 were cast in 1711 by Richard Sanders. The fourth was cast in 1882 by John Taylor & Co.

The Cemetery is an absolute disgrace, the stones were taken up and laid flat but then never cleaned. Even in the newer side the older graves in there are a mess. Having worked on cemeteries I can honestly say that no care is being shown at Winwick for it's ancient graves or for Local or Family History. Even the Church is locked if a service is not on, which is another disgrace and the way they have allowed St.Oswalds Well (a grade II listed monument) to become overgrown and in a state of ruin is something that the regular church goers should be ashamed of anywhere else would be applying for a lottery grant to have it restored. The only reason this church is still standing is because it is a grade 1 listed building which was mentioned in the Doomsday book otherwise it has very little to offer the passing tourists or...
