I go to Thurstaston regularly to walk the dog on the beach or along the old railway line, I also go to Willaston and walk along the railway to either Hooton or Parkgate. Great for me as I live a few minutes drive away. However, the only issue I have is with pig ignorant cyclists who seem to think they own the place and treat walkers with utter contempt. I would like to say most cyclists do show courtesy to walkers, however, there are a number who do not, in fact, they have utter contempt for anybody who dares to invade what they feel is their path and nobody elses. They often ride far too fast around other people, refuse to slow down, refuse to move towards the side forcing walkers to move, my dog has nearly been hit by a cyclist on a couple of occasions. This behaviour is typical of a number of cyclists and is not just a problem here, however, I feel I need to comment on my experience in Wirral Country Park. I will continue to visit both Thurstaston and Willaston to walk and I will not be intimidated by these individuals. Unfortunately, the actions of a few brainless and ignorant people spoil the park for a lot of people, not just walkers but also the many responsible and courteous cyclists who do...
Read moreStunning large park area. Beautiful and picturesque views, a good walking path and barbecue areas with tables in the picnic area, and a cafe (at the moment it was closed, but I think because it's probably winter, and it opens closer to summer) by the lake with ducks . It has excellent facilities and is dog friendly. There are many benches scattered around the park to relax, where you can admire stunning views of the beach and even the sunset. From here you can walk down to the beach and walk along the shoreline and numerous trails. There is a cycle path to West Kirby or Neston where you can even walk. Spent a wonderful day at Thurstaston Beach. We managed to go for a walk before sunset; it was excellent warm weather without rain or wind. A great place to spend a day with the family, with lots to explore, from lovely countryside walks to walks along the beach. We heard that there is a visitor information center with toilets, but we didn’t need it and didn’t understand where it was. There is ample...
Read moreFirstly 4 and not 5 stars only because an unstable coastal cliff line needs more prominent signage and better barriers given that this is such a family friendly site otherwise. That said.. what a gorgeous place and good facilities. Pre built brick BBQ stands, some grass areas left wild with paths through, good paths through for walking and cycling. Great for dog walks. Two cafe facilities both dog friendly; Flissys which is busy but has good range of food with many friendly staff and swift service. The other is based inside a visitor centre, fewer food choices but it is a social community interest business, so if you just want a brew and a quick bite, fine. Car park is basically £1per hour and has plenty space.. just accross road from where it all happens. Steep steps to beach are not accessible and only for fairly fit. Really pleased I came here ; a most enjoyable way to spend...
