Ironically, I didn't even spot the brown sign, for this, until I'd already driven past the actual site of Arthur's Round Table... So, an accidental discovery, rather than punishing unruly children, this time. Parked in a lay by, almost underneath the M6, and desperate for the toilet. Spoiler alert, there isn't one. Was just about to go, anyway, when my wife warned me, that the next car was occupied by a travelling salesman, examining the backs of his eyelids... Who knew that traveling salesmen still existed? The site itself might not be so impressive, but... Ask yourself, did that solitary rock land from outer space, and create that crater?.. Or, did prehistoric Britons manufacture this site, and for what purpose? Both would have Sherlock Holmes searching for a more plausible explanation, so well...

This one is really unusual; although there is one large stone in the centre (a further two were removed some time in the 18th or 19th century) the outer circle is made from thousands of tons of cobbles that were brought from the nearby river Eden. These are now grassed over, with some large trees growing on them. There is a small parking area about 100m from the entrance...
