Hanging out at North Cobb library today and I decided to share some pictures I had taken last year.
I believe this is library #5 for me, having sought it out once before since I was in the area.
This library is pretty nice, with a warehouse type layout. From its exposed faux industrial ceiling to its trapezoid layout that separates the children's section from the adult side. (It's pretty obvious when walking in; one either goes left or right.)
I learned today that North Cobb High School is nearby, which explains the functional decor and arrangement of computers and various seating. At least on the adult side. While it appeals to my younger side (as to be appealing to young people), my older sensibilities find the decor and layout awkward and not simplified enough.
Still, tucked away in Kennesaw, Georgia, North Cobb library is a great retreat just to hang smd recharge with a read. Or as I am about to do, get some sketching done. Since I was in the area again. And I am keeping this post positive,...
Read moreI've came and had to just leave this library multiple times in the past two weeks simply because there is no available places to sit and get work done. The tables and desks are constantly in use, which is great, but I just think with the traffic this library gets, they could definitely use more areas for adults to work or study. There are some chairs, but most people need a desk or surface for laptop or to write. The study rooms are constantly full and the reservation system is inefficient. This library is definitely geared more towards kids and teens but it seems plenty of adults want to use it as well. The staff will say they have tables to work on outside but its 100° out there...
Another point is that this library is INCREDIBLY loud. I understand libraries aren't expected to be silent anymore, but the mall is quieter than this library and this is really the only library in the area with this big of a noise issue. The librarians are constantly chatting and gossiping and it echoes all...
Read moreA kind librarian gave me a flash drive out of her own pocket when I was laid off. I asked if the library sold flash drives and she gave me one. I was laid off and her flash drive let me save 6 months of paystubs, resumes, and applications so I could get a CDL through the WIOA program and get a job. Now I am advancing in my career and I have a CDL and her kindness when I couldn't even afford a flash drive was a big part of that.
Not only that, this library is clean, peaceful and well stocked. I spent a lot of time here when I was unemployed and they helped me move forward during...
