We absolutely ADORE this park. It has to be the best one we have found so far in Aiken. It is clean and well kept and I appreciate the covers over the play area to keep you cool during the summers. It does tend to get a little trashy on busy days but that is because humans have no decency anymore and expect others to clean up after themselves --- which they do. Whoever does the upkeep of this park should teach a class on what to do. We ended up leaving another park that was so trashy (honestly, most of Aiken is like this and it's so disappointing coming from a city like Beaufort SC that made it top priority to keep their roadways clean), we had to leave, and they could learn a lesson from whoever caretakes there. There is tons of options for the kids to play, no matter their age. There are tons of seating for parents that have covers as well to keep you cooler in the summer. And we love walking down to the water on hot days. It's absolutely beautiful at night and very well lit so on the days it becomes darker earlier, we can still stay out and enjoy ourselves for a bit longer. We have never seen a crowd out there causing any issues or anyone that's made us feel unsafe or anything other than welcome. It's in a convenient area off a main highway that will take you to Aiken or Augusta. We just really love this park and we are thankful to have a safe, clean, fun, family oriented place that we can bring our kids to when we want to get out of the house. If you are in town or just moved here, we HIGHLY recommend visiting. There is even a boat ramp with easy access so you can take yours out on the water.
The only issue I could see is the fact that it has a manufacturing plant that sits directly in front of it... I don't know if they release anything into the water, but you just never know so please do your research before entering the water or eating anything you catch from there. You are allowed to fish there with tons of space to do so, just please check the requirements for having a license and for what and how many fish you're allowed to bait and keep. Next to the park is a small sand area that makes it accessible to swim during the summertime but there is no lifeguard so you MUST take caution and watch your children if you allow them to swim. They even have a food stand that I believe is open during the summer and/or for events so you can get snacks and drinks. And at one time last year we saw a huge birthday party set up there and they seemed to have a blast! All around it's just a great place to visit if you're in town visiting, a new resident, or just didn't know it was available to the community! We have a blast everytime we come, it's always clean, and we enjoy every minute that we are able to spend there. Highly recommend bringing your kids, or even just yourselves, to get out of the house...
Read moreVery fun park! I am from this area and would rate it 10/10. You can hike around it towards the factory across the dam, or you can trek some of the disc-golf trails on the left past the restrooms and water area. These trails go back FAR!
There's a swim area for kiddos in the hot months, although I wouldn't recommend it to be a regular habit because the factory still leaks chemicals into the water. We've only gotten a bug/cold once from it in all the years I've been but... Still!
There's also a fully updated playground area and picnic shelter. Each playground equipment tells you what age ranges are suitable for the kiddos. Swings, slides, climbing bars, a merry-go-round, and even a cute little area for toddlers to play on.
Updated picnic shelter(s) include grills as well! The bathrooms are sometimes closed (especially in the winter months) and they are not usually clean at all but if you go up the road a bit there's a grocery store right on the corner that you can use - if needed. The water fountains don't always work but you guys this park is worth visiting.
There's no way you'll see everything in one day because there is so much to see. If you are a big hiker, you'll absolutely love these trails. When you come to the park if you take your first left and drive all the way down, past the bend and the ranger station, all the way past that, you'll park in a secluded area right next to a metal gate. That's where you should start your hike if you want to avoid traffic.
Waterfront hiking: Walking past the metal gate if you steer to your right and at about 500 feet from the metal gate, you'll find a small entrance down a small flight of man-made wooden steps nestled into the tree roots and dirt. It is part of the disc-golf trail but doesn't seem that people actually use it much. Thats where the best hiking is if you follow it all the way down you'll see some pretty amazing views of the water. You'll even come across an old abandoned bridge to your right covered in trees, still accessible at your own risk.
I've seen people fish here but again- I wouldn't eat anything from this pond because it is well... A pond. Once sat on a factory that was not too long ago operable and may still be. Smoke comes from the chimney but I never see anyone there. Who knows. Better to not eat out of this pond and if you choose to swim, I'd only do it once a year or...
Read moreThis community has built a gorgeous park. The playground has updated state of the art safety equipment for the children. There's no short supply of pond/lake frontage to fish from; nice wide boat ramp and plenty of parking for your trailers. Every structure is fairly new, and very well maintained. There's a beach front for swimming; they even installed some hammocks (how nice is that). BBQ grills free to the public. The hiking trails were well groomed; sand covered safe for running on and marked every quarter of a mile. The disc golf course is very nice, challenging enough and comes with stunning views of the lake. Make sure to wear proper shoes since this course is fairly wooded and the leaves get slippery when wet, don't twist an ankle. There's plenty to do here for an all day mini vacation. Would be nice to see them install a dog run or future dog park, but until then, your doggies are more than welcome on the trails while on leash. The hiking trails are available to download from the All Trails app and this has plenty of Pokemon Go Pokestops to spin and...
