We did the Hike and Float tour through Chilkat Guides in Skagway. This is a short approximate 2- 3 mile hike on the Chilkoot Trail that was used by the Klondike gold-rush hopefuls. At the end of the hike we boarded rubber rafts and floated downstream back to our starting point. While short, it gave some insights of those historic Gold rush times. Our guide Dominic, aka Shaggy, has an excellent knowledge of the local flora and fauna. He was able to answer any questions with both insight and humour. The trail can be a bit of challenge at times but Dominic made sure that everyone was able to safely navigate the obstacles. I would not recommend this for those with mobility issues. Safety was always Dominic’s main concern. The return float, while only about 3 miles, was fun and interesting. Nothing to wild. Again, safety was Dominic’s main objective. This was taken as an excursion off of a cruise ship and, in no particular order, I will say it is in my top 3 excursions.
