The sign "The End of the Alaska Highway - Now entering the Richardson Highway" is no longer there! The Milepost 1422 monument, the counterpart to the one in Dawson Creek, also only had one short sigh. The explanation followed when you tried to enter the visitor center. In the information center, a silent film about the Alaska Highway was playing on a monitor mounted on the wall. Unfortunately, it was impossible to see it because one tour bus after another was constantly unloading its customers, who first lined up in thick groups to use the washroom, thus blocking the view of the moving images. Anyone who travels on a cruise ship can get a certificate that they have mastered the entire Alaska Highway, that they have gone through the trials and tribulations - under great strain - for $ 3! This place is therefore no longer a memorial to the men who accomplished this road-building feat in 1942 under the most difficult conditions and at great personal expense. Even the current situation of the highway, due to its length and the often very expensive road maintenance on both the Canadian and American sides due to the permafrost, is not something you can learn in this information center! At least on the back of the certificate there could have been a little history, but this page also...

Friendly staff who tried to be helpful. Unfortunately they didn’t know the answers to some basic questions, including questions about water in the campgrounds heading south on the Richardson highway. For their and others’ benefit, here are the answers:

Paxson Lake: There is a hand pump near site 19 that dispenses potable water.

Dry Creek: The entire campground is closed for the season due to a...

This is a great stop to get your picture taken at the end of the Alcan. The staff is really nice and very helpful. Plenty of places to park an RV. Bathrooms are really clean. Be sure to get a picture of the huge mosquitos! Oh, and don't forget to get a Certificate if you have driven from Dawson Creek to...
