This park is huge!!! It has lots if green areas & benches. It has picnic tables & grills. There are rentable pavillions. There is at least 1 path around the park. There are restrooms, but they are pit style. (I don't know if there are restrooms near the rental area.)
There is a place to rent at least kayaks. There were a LOT of geese and quite a few goslings. Not my favorite bird, but they seem to be used to people being around, so they were not aggressive. Watch where you step!
Lots of good fishing spots, as there are lots of access points to water.
This is not a quiet park. Lots going on. But it was still pretty. I would recommend bringing a blanket or camp style chairs if you prefer shade.
There was overflow parking available. I didn't need it, but I can imagine it gets used a lot. There are a few small parking areas along the park's road.
Be mindful of the 1 lane bridge. Entering people are to yield. Exiting people have the right of way. But entering people come in straight, so it looks like they aren't yielding, even...

The renovation of the back park in Gallup is sensational. There are so many "stations" that promote a different type of learning environment that there is something for every child.
A new castle like structure that focus' on music with bells, a climbing mushroom, benches, tables, chairs made perfect for enjoying a lunch outside and my favorite part was the new multi-child equipment.
There is a saucer swing big enough for adult to easily sit and hold smaller children or for a number of kids to swing together, a teeter totter that holds four kids instead of two, and so and so forth. This area really promotes sharing and making new friends for the children.
Add that this is right on the river and we spent a lot of time there the past few months of summer and fall.
We also enjoyed the kayak and canoe rental opportunities, where just myself and my three year old took the long trip down the river and it was perfect. She sat in the front with her kid size oar and...
Read moreFirst time going to this park, and I decided to take my two Japanese students with me. First off the guy at the front desk was very rude, he keep rushing my students who were trying to decide what kayak they wanted. I had to finally tell him to give them a minute to look at what they wanted. They are just learning English and I wanted them to read and decide on there own, but this jerk wanted an answer in 1 minute from them. They were very disorganized and we didn't even get the kayak we wanted since they over booked. The kayak we got was terribly uncomfortable and cut into me every were. The seat was broken as well so I basically had to lay down and paddle. My students kayaks were full of water from the last people who used it. They told us to go to the damm, which was a very boring route and loud due to the streets above. The only redeeming quality was the girls at the docks, they were kind...
