Amazing hike that ends with a breathtaking view! Highly recommend coming for sunrise. We parked about an hour before sunrise and no trouble parking in the small lot across from the trailhead.
It was still dark so we used our red flashlights, which helped us see and still keep the moonlight. Others ahead of us with white headlamps or flashlights were a bit blinding, so I would highly recommend using a red flashlight.
The elevation gain happens right away with some stairs and switchbacks. The rest of the hike is mostly flat. There are some drop offs to one side and there isn’t always a guard rail. There’s one spot that’s especially narrow but not too bad. It’s definitely much friendly once the sun is up, haha.
It was very windy at the overlook, so check the temperature and maybe pack a jacket if you get cold easily. I kept my hood up here. There’s lots of chipmunks with no fear to look out for. We saw three wedding/engagement photoshoots. There’s lots of space to spread out at the overlook, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding a spot to sit and enjoy the view.
Seeing the canyon light up and change colors as the sign rose higher was magical. Would love to...
Read moreIt's commonly known as Canyon Overlook Trail, didn't know it goes with name Pine Creek Canyon Overlook Trail in Google map. There are only 9 parking spots at the trailhead right outside of tunnel, we were lucky this time to get one.
The views along the trail were amazing already, I enjoyed every step of the way. Since the trail is pretty easy, almost flat with elevation of 5270ft, it's very crowded during holiday season, and it's the most popular trail in Zion NP.
At the top, we can see spectacular view of the canyon, which is similar to the view from Angels Landing we climbed few years ago. There were also 4 big horn goats goofing around on left side, they were not afraid of people at all.
We wondered around for an hour, taking pictures and sitting on the rock to enjoy the view: Bridge Mountain on the left side of the canyon, East Temple on right side, the Pine Creek...
Read moreTo reach this location you will have to hike the Canyon Overlook Trail for approximately 1.1 miles out-and-back, but it will be worth the trip. Once you arrive, you will be stunned by the fantastic view of the lower portion of Zion National Park. Plan on spending an hour or so to really take in what is in front of you. What makes Zion stand out compared to many other national parks in the southwest, is the ability with very little effort to view this amazing place from both the bottom up and the top down. There are no park facilities at the overlook and the nearest restroom will be approximately 100 yards east of the trailhead along the road. Be advised, this place is best viewed early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds, even during the off-season. If you have height issues, you might want to reconsider your visit or stay away...
