We were staying on the east side of MV and decided to come see the cliffs. Beach is lovely but rocky. With the Gay Head Cliffs, it's definitely the most beautiful beach we saw on MV. Water is cold and fairly rough (similar to South Beach). Rocks, some hidden under the waves, make swimming a special adventure, and I wouldn't recommend surfing.
Also you have to pay for parking, ranging from 10 to 20 dollars. You can drop off at the beach access but then you have to park up at the parking lot and it's a bit of a hike back.
