Enjoyed a wonderful day in the village today and I wanted to send out an email about my experience. This was my first visit to the village, I loved it and I plan to continue coming back, eager to learn about spinning and other hand crafts. I was able to spend a few moments with Lori, Lee, and the ladies in the broom shop, they were all SO helpful, knowledgeable, intentional and informative. It’s encouraging to experience the kindness and care that they put into their jobs and the guest experience.
Around 11am we enjoyed the lunch buffet at The Barn and throughly enjoyed that as well with the exception of the hostess. When we walked into the restaurant we were hardly greeted and when the old blonde lady walked us to the table she didn’t talk, had a horrible attitude, and grunted when we thanked her for seating us. She walked around the restaurant the entire morning seating people with a horrendous nasty look on her face and no warmth what so ever. Its discouraging that someone like that is being allowed to work with the public. I can’t recall her name but she should be ashamed of herself; acting that way as an adult who works with the public in a place of hospitality.
Overall we really enjoyed our visit and can’t wait to make reservations...
Read morePeople do not get excited about this place, just went for apple weekend and it was not as advertised. My fiance and I went as part of a package with Sauder Heritage Inn. I have been to historic villages in the past and they do a great job transforming your mindset to an earlier time. At Sauder village it's very gimmicky. Most of the staff was either rude, complained about their job or ignored you completely. As I stated it was apple weekend but no apples could be found as listed? They had apple cider but this was only at select times and at the back of the village, so depending on where you were you could miss it like we did. Most of the items in the general store were made in China. Most buildings were open with no interaction between staff and visitors. When we made our way to the ice cream parlor it was over a 30 minute wait so we walked out. The place lacks pageantry some buildings we went in the staff never even said hello which is so awkward for the visitor. Sauder Village.. You are charging a fairly pricey admission.. Give something back to your patrons.. So greedy false advertising, misleading marketing the founder would be very disappointed. Shame on you, we will...
Read moreWe were traveling across the country in our RV and just happened to stumble onto this place. We stayed in their campground for 3 days. The campground was lovely. They had a nice walking trail and a fish pond. They had tent sites, electric sites, and full hookups. The shower house was the cleanest I've seen, and it was designed in a thoughtful manner. There was a splash pad for kids, a basketball hoop, a cornhole set up, a playground, etc. We even had access to the hotel's indoor pool and hot tub. The first morning we went to their bakery and bought some delicious cinnamon rolls. We also bought admission to their historical village. What an amazing place! We spent 4 hours there, but could easily have spent an entire day! And they are adding to it! We had also noticed lots of people going into the Barn Restaurant everyday. We decided to try it. We had their lunch buffet and while the choices were somewhat limited, the food was amazing! There is also a huge Founder's hall for events, and a large furniture store which is the original Sauder business. This is a must stop place. It can also be a destination on its own....
