Richard Simpson Park — Attraction in Arlington

We come here regularly, sometimes daily. Not quite as "parkish" as Bowman Springs Park to the south, but easier access. Bait shop (6am - 11pm) is just around the corner in the gas station with the good diner food (kitchen closes 5pm).

Fully modern park restrooms anti-lock at 10pm. Park closes @10pm but you may remain later - only if you are fishing. Park is safe with regular proactive APD patrols. Park is home to many ducks and geese that are mostly tamed by picnicers feeding them bread and some anglers giving them leftover minnows. As of this writing, two aloof cranes have started hanging out on the docks in daylight.

AVOID the docks in high wind, especially cross winds. Bowman Spring Park to the south has a solid fishing pier, and a rock solid small dock.

This trip was not so great. Went to fish at the lake . There was a huge group of 200or so people having a party at the pavilion area. No big deal. Until the started blocking the boat ramps, setting off fireworks and release a few hundred balloons and a few fire lanterns. A guy trying to get his trailer in the water to get his boat was blocked by parked car in the way. The fireworks were loud and dangerous. Called 911 but they didn't show up. After 45 mins of this, I packed up and left. I called to tell 911 to forget showing up since they finally stopped the fireworks and some were leaving. Was told by the operator that they would still send someone out but no officers were available. I told them thank you for the no service and that it would be pointless to send them now since they would not catch anything being done now but A few cars...

I thought this park was going to have at least a mile or two of walking/running trail but it wasn’t even half a mile! It has only one sit-up bench and three steps for cardio! Other than that, the view of the lake is very nice and peaceful! They have a clear like roof patio with chairs to relax and enjoy! Also some fishing ramp/area. The kids playground seems new and big enough for kids to play. Plenty of tables and benches to sit. The roof is a plus during the hot weather and great for eating with family!! Restrooms are clean!
