Overall, this park is perfectly suited to be what it has become, a predominantly dog-based park with some facilities that allow for family picnic or some simple walking. I would rate it at the top of the scale for a dog park and low to midway for a family park. If you are looking for a family park, Carrier Park is just up the street and much better suited for that type of outing.
It has heated restrooms, which is a nice feature but they are hit-or-miss, depending on how much vagrant drug activity has been taking place on any given day. Yesterday, we were lucky and they were fairly clean, with minimal drug use evidence.
They dog park is fenced and seems to be set up very well. It has a couple of sections and then, of course, there is the entire rest of the park for walking on well-established trails. It is a great place to take a dog.
The park is also situated in such a way that it can either be a starting spot or the mid-point for a loop that is just over 3 miles and can take you to the New Belgium Brewery, across the Craven Street Bridge and back up Riverside and across the Amboy Road Bridge. All of that with 100% concrete...

There are not a lot of parking, luckily we were able to get a spot. The restroom is right next to the parking lot, didn't have a chance to check it out to see if it's clean but looked fine from the outside.
The park is one of the stops that link to the long walk way along the river. It's a great trail, easy & flat with beautiful nature, calming environment. Highly recommend taking a walk here.
We also walked by a decent size dog park. They split it into 2 areas for large dogs and small dogs. Lots of room for your dogs to run around and play with other dogs. Looked like they were...

A lot of smaller dogs are so intimidated that they canāt handle being around a bunch of med/large dogs all at once. It also keeps dog owners from getting in fights because thereās designated areas for the different weight class of dogs. That being said, I have never had an issue with another dog owner, people have all been really nice. One time I left my phone on a picnic table put it in lost mode and immediately someone called my wife to let me know they would stay with it until I came back to grab it. Coming to the conclusion that 19 out of 20 people at dog parks in Asheville are...
