This is an honest review, this hike killed me yesterday and I'm a hiker. But to my defense, I had 4 kids (who have also been on hikes) with me who kept stopping and about a quarter of the way started getting tired. The hike started out nice, some flat terrain and sand, we turned left at the entrance and the hike down to 'C' was rocky but still manageable for them going down hill. The Natural Bridge is very pretty and a good place to sit and rest. It is also where I made the mistake of keeping on going to finish this. I'm not a quitter and I wanted to finish and the kids wanted to turn around. We kept going and when we thought we had made it to 'E' we discovered we were off trail.. Couldn't find E at all. Theres a few areas where the trail splits and theres no clear indication of which one to follow. After thinking for some time and trying to find E or the blue markers, we decided to follow the markers backwards and turn around all together. The climb up was just so hard, the kids were tired, they fell a few times and cried out of frustration also😄
Needless to say, this is a hike I shouldn't done on my own to see if the kids couldn't have made it (they could not). The trail has a little bit of everything which is nice but not enough for kids to really enjoy it or feel a sense of accomplishment. They were defeated, tired and don't want anything to do with hiking at the moment.
Kids ages are 12, 10, 7 and 7. My 12 year old is pretty sore on the knees and ankles. I'm beat up 😭🤣 the others have bruises and scrapes everywhere. I want to believe I'll give this one another shot but my heart just knows I...
Read moreMy son and I are not experienced hikers at all. I am 58 and he is 24. I wore boots for this hike. It did not disappoint ! It is a moderate hiking trail for sure. It had rained a couple of days before, so we got to see streams. We did not go to the grotto because of the water from the rain. Pictures do not give this place justice. We went to the left at the hiking sign. I would recommend that direction first. By mile 3.5 out of 4.5 we were ready to finish up. It took about 4 hours and that was with looking at things and taking pictures. No restrooms. Make sure you have plenty of time before the sun goes down,AND make sure to bring spray for deep woods for ticks.I had one under my bra line that attached by the time we got back home. It did not feel like a 4 hour hike because there was so much to see. However, both of us did slip a couple of times on wet leaves. I wouldn't suggest bringing small children (5 and under)on this hike. Make sure you wear hiking boots or really good walking shoes with good tread. And bring extra shoes and socks just in case your feet get wet crossing the streams. I am an active person and so is my son, but we were still sore...
Read more6/8/2024- We started at 7:30 AM. It was a overcast day, 65° and rain. The tree canopy kept us mostly dry for the most part but then we eventually were soaked! I am a plus sized woman and found this hike to be easy in some spots and challenging in others. Lots of little streams to cross and lots and lots of rocks and tree roots. That being said wear proper hiking shoes! Since it was raining many of the flat rocks on the trail were slick! Definitely bring plenty of water, take lots of breaks/stops and enjoy the surroundings! Lots of cool caves! The Natural Bridge is beautiful and massive! We did the trail in about 4 hrs 45 min. I also recommend doing the trail counter clockwise. If you do it this way you will be going down alot of the steep rocks instead of up them. We starting seeing other hikers about 2.5 miles in, mostly everyone was pleasant except for a large group of teenagers who were yelling profanities at each other and throwing rocks at the Natural Bridge, kind of ruined the mood. Other than the teenager it was a great hike! Free parking,...
