Petit Jean Mountain area is a beautiful destination, and I will be back, just not to the cabins. The cabins are duplexes, which gave me pause before I made the reservation. A duplex cabin would be great for family and friends reserving both sides. It's just not the same when you bring your spouse to try to have a peaceful weekend getaway, but no peace can be found. I had to turn up the little TV just to drown out the neighbors, and yes, even after the magical 10pm quiet time. 1 star for the accommodations.
The people that we've met that work at Mather Lodge and at the park have been nothing but friendly and cordial, and our dinner at the restaurant in the lodge was absolutely spot on. 5 stars for these folks.
The duplex cabins are set up with 2 full-size beds, a dormitory refrigerator, a microwave, and coffee pot. Next to the refrigerator, you'll find an iron and ironing board.
Similar to many motel rooms, the sink and vanity is in the room area, and the toilet and tub/shower combination is separate. The beds are separated by a night stand with a phone, clock/power station on too and a wall lamp for each bed. There is a TV on the fireplace mantle that has your basic cable stations.
Beware the door stop in the floor 2 feet in front of the refrigerator. Take off your shoes and you will find it.
The beds are comfortable, and the cabins are clean. Plan to reserve both sides, or make other arrangements if you are loud or you don't want to chance having...
Read moreThis is a spectacular setting. The lodge has been renovated well in keeping with the original structure. Gorgeous views. But there are a couple of issues. In not renovating the old accommodations in order to preserve them historically, the rooms to sleep in fall short. Several room are amazingly small and devoid of creature comforts. ie no fridges or microwaves, and no microwaves made available in the rest of the hotel. Old dirty stained hallway carpet that is probably 50 years old. It does not feel historical, just old. The old lobby has a nice fireplace, but they shut it down at 9PM. Kind of like Mom making you go to bed early.|The restaurant is physically beautiful, and meals not super expensive, but the meals are subpar. I ordered a hamburger steak. They called it "smothered with onions and mushrooms". It literally had one mushroom cut into 3 slices with one onion ring. I asked for more and now had two mushrooms sliced with a couple more onion rings-served with a small side of canned peas. Together with an overcooked dry burger. Side salad was miniscule. Other food was also dry and overcooked.Staff was friendly and tried to be helpful. But they would be well served to hire...
Read moreWe stayed in duplex cabin, number 24 for one night. There was nobody in the other half of the duplex, so we had the whole place to ourselves, and it was very quiet. These cabins are very nice and up-to-date, clean, and very pleasant. The only thing I would change is I would put a railing on the irregular stone stairs leading up to the front door. I know they are trying to keep everything very rustic looking, but a hand railing next to the stairs would be very helpful. We had dinner at the Lodge. The Lodge is beautiful and very pleasant. We watched the sunset. I will say that our pork chops were overcooked. But the service and the view were great! I would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. This is a very beautiful park with lots of hiking opportunities. If you stay in the summertime,...
