From a commuter:
Updated - Problem # 2 8/29/18: You need to update the way you handle tickets. A tiny square inch of paper is not the way the digital world is trending. My tiny square inch of paper flew away and of course landed directly into the east river with several witnesses to testify to this. Not one crew member cut me a break. I have spent ~700/month for 8 months now and you couldn’t let me on for a single ride when my tiny, 1 square inch, ticket flew away on a windy dock in front of 3 witnesses? And now that we’re on topic, what are you doing with these ridiculous ticket books? I have a ~700$ book of paper in my bag that if I lose I eat? Are you the only ferry still using paper?
Problem #1 Well, I was excited. I got a new job on Wall Street and I thought this ferry was going to be my saving grace. I used to commute 2 hours door to door and the ferry was supposed to save me so much time (making it worth the exorbitant price). This was not at all how it has worked out. Perhaps the cold (several days worth of cancelled ferries) and the recent “bomb cyclone” (several days worth of parking warnings) had an impact, but today is a perfectly normal day as was yesterday and I’m still standing outside in the cold with a 30 minute delay and ferries running on a restricted schedule. I’ve been late to my new job 2 times this week due to ferry delays. Otherwise, the crew is very nice and I think they’re trying to accommodate the riders, but come on, standing in the cold while you’re 40 minutes late to your new job stinks! I’ll amend my review if...
Read moretaking the ferry is by far the nicest way to get to the city, although certainly the most extensive. however as a daily commuter, seastreak is very disappointing with their communication. Their aging fleet of boats often have mechanical issues leading to delays. Seastreak is inconsistent with informing riders to these delays, leading to missed rides and waiting.
for example, this morning the boat was delayed due to the cold weather and accumulation of ice. the boat was about 20 minutes late, which meant that all of the riders were waiting in line, outside in single digit temperatures. there was no notification or communication. Seastreaks office is a few hundred feet away, but no one could be bothered to come out and let the riders know that there would be a delay. once on the ferry, the captain informed us that it was due to ice buildup from last night. so that means they knew they would be running late since the night before, and had been running late all morning and just never bothered to post the information.
I have sent emails, left messages, and left voicemails about previous incidents. I have never once received a reply, telling me they really just don't care. for paying close to $8,000 per year to take the ferry, you think they could at least reply to an email. I live in Atlantic highlands so it is by far the most convenient commute to ny, but after waiting outside freezing yet again, I am looking at...
Read moreThis was a great day(10/9). My wife and I were so excited to go up the Hudson on the Sea Street that we booked one of the first boat trips. Unfortunately, the leaves were not ready to do their magic. Not to worry because everything else was perfect. From the delicious lunch to the on board tour guide. Plenty of good food to go around while the tour guide (Heidi), kept us entertained with the many attractions and history of the Hudson. She was one of the most professional and personal tour guides. She was very helpful with taken photos of the passengers if requested and instructional on when and where a great photo shot would be. My wife and I were very impressed and it was a pleasant surprise to have such a...
