I believe in life, the universe gifts us people when we need them. Mike and his crew at Capitol City Wood Works were one of these universal gifts our family was lucky to receive. We met Mike about 6 months ago, shortly after my FIL had passed away and my MIL could no longer take care of the house. Our goal was to sell the house. The first problem...the back deck (55ft x 25ft) with a not working pool (33ft x 20ft) in the middle of the deck needed major repairs and code upgrades. The second problem, my husband & I live across the country & were overseeing the repairs from 1,300 miles away. Using Angie's list we found 3 different contractors to interview for the job. Each interview we stated we wanted the deck to be safe, use the structure that is there and look good. Mike was the only contractor that did two important things: 1. he sought to understand our unique situation of distance & selling the house 2: he listened to what we wanted for repairing the deck rather than a new build. Mike also brought in an outside engineer to make sure what he was telling us would work and be up to code. Working with Mike, his communication is superb. Any question we asked he sent timely, thorough responses. He included the costs and where he could save us money. When he didn't know the answer, he would research it and if he and his crew couldn't do the work, he would suggest who to contact. He treated my MIL's house as if it were his own mom's house. Mike and his crew were easy to work with. They took pride in and were detailed about the work they were doing. Because this job had two parts, we were also working with a pool company. When problems arose with the pool company, Mike asked if he could help. Mike easily worked with the pool company to help move the whole project along. The work on the deck was completed in approx 3 weeks, however, after meeting with our realtor and talking to Mike we added on a few more projects that would help sell the house. The CCWW team repaired the wood on an outside arbor as well as the plaster on an inside wall. They also repaired and stained an interior courtyard decking which involved shaving tree roots down, so the decking was smooth and up to code. Next, they power washed the cement back patio, the front of the house, driveway and garage door. Finally, they replaced the carpeting in the bathrooms with LVP. John, crew lead, did fabulously cutting all the angles for the primary bathroom. (There were- A LOT of angels.) The CCWW team intricately blended the transition from the LVP flooring to the cabinets, so it looked seamless. Our family highly recommends Capitol City Wood Works for any of your projects. Not only is their work outstanding, excellently priced, they are trustworthy, wonderful communicators, detailed and caring in what they do, this is also a veteran-owned, small business! Thank you Mike & crew for everything you've done to make a difficult time for our family, much easier to manage. Note: There are before and after photos attached with this review.

Mike and his fabulous crew took on a large project at my residence which entailed replacing a lot of old wood around the windows of my 1964 Northwest Hills home, plus repainting the entire exterior top to bottom. Not only did they do a fantastic job, Mike had his crew really organized in terms of scheduling the work in the proper order, taking detailed notes and photos, and letting me know of any additional issues as they came up. Every house project always spawns more ideas for changes and Mike was super helpful in doing some interior work (removing some old doors and creating archways), and even did a great job power washing my standing seam metal room when it came into my mind that maybe that needed to be done. He is currently helping me select and go through the process of replacing my front door as well as installing some sliding doors that lead from the kitchen to the patio & outdoor living area. He is very detailed, focused, caring and truly wants the best for his customers. I trust his word 100% and he will be my go-to person in the future for any additional nutty home improvement ideas I might have. I had an excellent experience with Mike and his team.

Excellent job! They worked hard and it shows. We could not be happier! A couple of key points: the stairs are on 12 inch centers and are the strongest doubled up stringers in Texas and should last as long as the decking! The cladded walls are framed up with double the amount of 4x4s and 2x4s that we previously had on our first build. The notching in of the deck boards around the doors and walls looks like the house was built on to the deck. Lastly the railing drink rails were angled at the house and each post to look asthetically pleasing to our deck shape and design.

If you are looking to have wood work done, let me tell you about my experience and why you should work with Michael.

First of all, if you're just looking for something quick and dirty and you want to skip permits and cut corners, probably not the guy you call.

I am a very picky, extremely detail-oriented person. I have high expectations, and I get really mad when people tell me they're going to do something and they don't do it. I also think that too few people nowadays don't take pride in their work. Michael exceeded all of my expectations. Here are some details.

We were having exterior decks on the upper and lower level of a condominium complex rebuilt. Over the course of a long period of time I tried to meet with an interview no fewer than eight different contractors. A number of them didn't even show up to the appointment, and those that did so they have a quote back to me soon and 5 days later I had to follow up. also, most of them told me that I didn't need permits or could do this or could do that. Then I met Michael at Capital City Woodworks. After meeting him, we signed to move forward. As a commercial property, we had a very complex process of having to get permits and engineered drawings. Michael helped us throughout the entire time. He led the process with us and kept us informed all along the way. After long rain delays, they got started on the job. They did everything the way you hope people would do it. They took time and care with everything they did. Top quality materials, top quality craftsmanship, and they even did things above and beyond that I didn't ask for in terms of trim and finish out. They didn't just slap up a deck, they even sanded down the rough corners and truly made it beautiful.

They were not the least expensive quote that I received, but they also were not the most expensive. And, I'm not sure it's possible to have done a better job so I honestly feel like I got the very, very best job at a very good price.

So, if somebody asked me to list the things that I experienced in working with capital city Woodworks, here's my list:

1 Responsible 2 honest 3 detail oriented 4 do what they say they're going to do 5 high quality work 6 above and beyond expectations 7 knowledgeable 8 actually left the work site cleaner than how they found it

I could go on but you get the picture. When you work with somebody on something that is a bit complex (and our situation was more difficult than the average) and they meet every expectation and exceed most of them, it's just rare today. Capital City Woodworks did...

CCWW worked on a project recently to replace all of the siding, windows, and the front door on our house and some other repairs including painting the new siding. Mike and his crew were professional and great to work with. I was especially impressed with their excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Even though parts of our wall framing was not straight from when it was originally built, they were able to improvise and fix it so the horizontal planks went on perfectly flat and it came out great looking. There were a few other issues related to how the house was built that came up but they always figured out a solution so the finished product would look great and stand up to the weather. Mike kept us well informed on everything from the time I received the quote until the final walk through at the end. He always kept us up to date on what they were working on each day during the project and consulted us whenever a decision was needed on how we wanted something to look. They also stayed on schedule even though it rained a few days and we decided to get some additional unplanned repairs done during the project. Mike takes great pride in his work and makes sure every step of the project is done right and it shows. In the end, our house looks brand new and beautiful. We’re really impressed with the job they did and highly...
