This stunning view certainly did not compensate for the terrible day I experienced yesterday. Critical Review of Mountain Bonnell Trail
Our recent trip to Mountain Bonnell Trail became a troubling ordeal when our bags were stolen. The items taken included a gold emerald necklace, a diamond ring, and a wedding band. The rental car company mentioned that such occurrences are frequent in this region. The police informed us that a criminal group, primarily composed of women, targets cash and discards everything else. Despite their attempts, they were unable to recover our possessions. The broken glass along the roadside suggests that this area is a common site for crime. However, visitors like us are not alerted to these dangers. The security cameras in the parking lot do not assist law enforcement in apprehending the criminals, underscoring the shortcomings of Mountain Bonnell Trail's management.
This incident tainted what was meant to be a lovely graduation ceremony. It is disheartening that such a well-known destination lacks competent management to ensure the safety of its visitors. The management needs to acknowledge previous reports and inform the public about potential hazards. Serious repercussions are necessary for this negligence to avert future...

Our recent visit to Mountain Bonnell Trail turned into a distressing experience when our rental car broken in to and our purses as well as all of our valuable items were stolen. According to the rental car company, such incidents are common in this area. The police informed us that a criminal group, mostly female, targets cash and credit cards and valuable items. Despite their efforts, they could not locate our belongings.
The shattered glass on the side of the road indicates that this area is a frequent crime scene. However, visitors like us are not warned about these dangers. The awful and sprayed sign that says not to leave your belonging in the car is awful. The security cameras in the parking area are ineffective in aiding the authorities to catch the criminals, highlighting the inefficiency of Mountain Bonnell Trail's management.
This incident marred what was supposed to be a beautiful graduation ceremony. It is disappointing that such a popular destination lacks qualified management to ensure visitor safety. The management must take responsibility for past reports and educate the public about potential risks. Serious consequences are needed for such negligence to prevent...
Read moreI've been coming to Mount Bonnell for 27 years. It's been my go-to place to take first-time visitors to the Austin area because of its beauty and the fabulous views it offered. The winding roads that lead up to it require driving slowly, and on more than one occasion I've had to stop for deer in the road. Once you reach the park, parking is easily available (clearly marked) along the side of the road all along the hillside. Be careful walking from your car to one of the entrances, because sometimes people passing by don't drive as slowly as they should. You can choose to either ascend the fairly steep stairs at the south entrance, or at the north entrance take the more gradual pathway up to the top of the hill. Once you're at the top, there are benches and a few tables and some stunning views of Austin that you can't find anywhere else! Check out the boats along the river, the very nice houses, or the ever-evolving view of the Austin skyline. To me, it never grows old. At some point of the last almost-30 years, the Mt. Bonnell carved rock monument on the top of the hill was fractured in half, but to my surprise in this most recent trip it's been fully restored with what looks like the original stone! A must-see...
